My Top 5 Vegan Leather Fashion Items

Happy Monday! Today I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favorite vegan leather fashion items. I absolutely love leather when it comes to clothing and accessories, and I think it’s amazing that there are so many faux leather options out there! Before I was vegan I did own many real leather handbags and pairs of shoes. While I liked each piece, the leather wore out quite quickly and required a lot of care if I wanted it to look nice for a long period of time. Not only is faux leather often much more affordable than real leather, but I’ve had amazing luck with the wear of vegan leather, too. Here are my top five vegan leather fashion items!

G by GUESS Brittain Combat Boot [BUY]

The newest addition to my wardrobe is this pair of boots from DSW. I recently found out that G by GUESS offers faux leather boots, and I love this particular style. These boots are very comfortable, and they go with any outfit from jeans to dresses. Plus, they are quite affordable at just $59.99 at DSW. This will be my go-to pair of boots this fall and winter!

Express (Minus the) Leather Double Peplum Jacket [BUY]

One of the oldest vegan leather items in my closet is an amazing jacket from Express. I purchased this jacket in 2015, and cannot believe how well it has lasted over time. This vegan leather jacket is perfect for the fall and winter months, and I like to pair it with a plaid blanket scarf and black beanie hat. I’ve even taken this jacket in my suitcase several times, and it still looks almost new! While the retail price is $128.00, Express often offers coupons and sales. Nonetheless, I think this jacket is worth the investment seeing as I’m going on my third fall with it.

Forever 21 Pebbled Faux Leather Wallet [BUY]

Another faux leather item that I’ve used and loved for years is a wallet from Forever 21. Back in law school I interned at a fashion company, and it was frowned upon to use products from competitor brands. I ended up buying this wallet as a replacement for the branded one I owned, and I’ve used it ever since! I cannot believe that a vegan leather wallet I paid less than $15.00 for has lasted me almost three years now. It has just started showing signs of wear, and it is the only wallet I’ve used! I highly recommend it!

Liz Claiborne Mini Tuxedo Satchel [BUY]

As I mentioned at the start of this post, I used to love using leather handbags. One of my favorites was a Michael Kors satchel. Once I went vegan, I wasn’t comfortable using that bag anymore, so I sold it on ThredUp and purchased this faux leather bag at JCPenney. I’ve used this bag for about five months now, and really enjoy it. The material feels just like the real leather I used to use, but it is man made instead. Of course, the bag is also really affordable since it is sold at JCPenney. With sales and coupons I got this bag for under $30.00!

Arizona Lexie Bootie [BUY]

Last but not least is another item from JCPenney. I purchased a pair of wedge booties last year, and absolutely love them! The Lexie bootie is made from faux suede, and features a 3-inch heel. I love that these booties are very comfortable to wear since they are wedges. They can also go with many different outfits, and are extremely affordable with a regular price of $59.00. As always, make sure to take advantage of the sales and coupons offered at JCPenney!

That wraps up my favorite vegan leather fashion pieces! I hope this post introduced you to some new faux leather items or clothing brands. If you love leather, but want to go vegan, it’s really easy to find affordable options from a variety of retailers! You can also grab THIS pin from PETA that lets others know your leather is fake if that makes you more comfortable.

My KonMari Journey | Clothing Accessories + Komono Declutter

Happy Wednesday! Today I’m continuing to share my journey implementing the KonMari method with all of you. If you want to learn more about what the method is and why I decided to declutter my home in this way, please read the first blog post in this series HERE. I decided to follow Marie Kondo’s advice as closely as I can, so after decluttering my clothing, I moved right on to the clothing accessories, or what she calls clothing komono. This includes bags, shoes, jewelry, scarves, hats, and so on. Today I will be showing you some photos from this step in my tidying campaign, and sharing the experience I had with each category.

The clothing komono category may be tackled all at once, or in smaller sections. I decided to break down all of my clothing accessories so it would be easier to see how much I had in each category. I used a spare sheet as a drop cloth over my bed again (and you will see this in every blog post!). I find that helps to make sure no dirt or dust ends up on my bed, as that is the best surface in my bedroom on which to work.

BAGS

I began decluttering my bags first. This included all of my handbags, backpacks and duffle bags, travel pouches, and tote bags. I used to own a lot of handbags, but I only have a couple right now, so that was easy to narrow down right away. I ended up donating a ton of reusable tote bags, mainly the ones that weren’t very strong or were for brands I didn’t love. I also donated a lot of makeup bags and other pouches. I didn’t love most of the pouches I owned, so it wasn’t difficult to let go of them. While I use pouches a lot, I still only need a few. As for storing my bags, I put the ones dedicated to travel inside my luggage set, and then I stored the rest in a giant canvas tote that lives in my closet.

SCARVES, HATS, + GLOVES

Next up I tackled all of my scarves, hats, and gloves. I used to own a ton of scarves, but was fine with that in the past because I wore them regularly. You can even see what my giant scarf collection looked like a few years ago in THIS blog post! I now wear one scarf regularly, and it is rare I use another one. When using the KonMari method, I found that I was able to declutter many scarves I crocheted myself in the past. While I appreciate the memories associated with each item, they no longer spark joy because they were made with colors I don’t like any longer, or because they have been worn so much they were quite ratty. I donated the ones in good condition. I also donated some hats I no longer like and a spare pair of earmuffs.

What’s really exciting is that my entire collection of scarves, hats, and gloves now fits in a small plastic tote I keep on a shelf in my closet. As shown in the photos above, I used the KonMari folding method for my scarves, and layered other items on top. This allowed me to donate the scarf hanger I’ve used for years and freed up a bunch of space in my closet!

JEWELRY + HAIR ACCESSORIES

I recently did a big clear-out of my jewelry and hair accessories, so I didn’t think I’d have much to get rid of in these categories. I was wrong! I love that the KonMari method forces you to gather items from every area of the home at once. I knew I had some jewelry pieces in my nightstand, but I found a bunch more I totally forgot about in there, too! Same with hair accessories – I forgot I had a stash of headbands in a drawer. I rarely wear jewelry or hair accessories, so it was quite easy to declutter the items that no longer spark joy. In the photo above you can see all of the jewelry I’m donating. The pile I kept is much smaller, and mainly includes family heirlooms and other higher end pieces I’ve been given over the years. As for my hair accessories, I’ve only kept what I really need and a few pieces from my childhood that still spark joy, such as a Mickey Mouse bow.

SHOES

The last category in clothing komono is shoes. Despite thinking I had already narrowed down my shoe collection, I found six pairs that no longer sparked joy for me, including three that were so worn they needed to be thrown away. They might not look too bad in this photo, but in real life they were quite gross!

The shoes I’m keeping include my winter boots, a few pairs of heels, and some casual shoes that I wear regularly. The Converse and Sperry shoes you see in the front row are shoes that I want to declutter because they no longer spark joy, but that I need to keep for practicality’s sake. I no longer want to wear real leather, so once the Sperry shoes are worn out, I will get something new. However, I cannot afford to replace them at the moment. Similarly, I no longer enjoy wearing bright pink Converse, but they are the most comfortable shoes I own, so I am keeping them until I can afford to purchase another pair of comfortable sneakers. I’ve made a note of this in my planner to I can prepare for these purchases.

THOUGHTS ON CLOTHING KOMONO

This category can seem a bit overwhelming to tackle at first because there are so many sub-categories that fall within it. Thankfully, the entire process of tidying my clothing komono only took me one hour and 55 minutes. I know this is due, in part, to me already decluttering many of the items in these categories over the past two years. However, I also think this went quickly because I’m starting to really understand what sparks joy and what doesn’t. Storing these items was also quite easy, as I already had storage in mind. If your clothing komono categories contain many more items than mine, feel free to break up this process over multiple days. Perhaps you need an entire day for just handbags – that’s totally fine! Make the KonMari method work for your own personal needs. I know I look forward to continuing my tidying campaign using this method!

Do you find it easy or difficult to declutter clothing accessories? Let me know in the comments!

5 Secrets to Successful Clearance Sale Shopping!

Happy Friday! Today I am excited to share with you five of my best tips for scoring big at clearance sales. I was recently scouring the racks at the mall looking for some new pieces for my spring wardrobe, and I realized that some of the tricks I implement when shopping can be helpful to others. Not only do I always buy things on sale, but I also worked in retail clothing stores during high school and college, so I learned my way around the clearance racks from the inside! Let me share with you my top five secrets to successful clearance sale shopping!

All of the tips I’m sharing with you today are based on shopping for clothing on clearance. However, feel free to adapt them to whatever product you are hoping to buy!

SECRET 1: Look through ALL of the clothing racks no matter the size!

Clearance racks get very disorganized at clothing stores no matter how many times the associates organize them, and items get put back in the wrong place all the time. I’ve gotten in the habit of looking through the entire clearance section of every store so I don’t miss out on amazing pieces that are just stuffed into the wrong place. Plus, sizes range dramatically from brand to brand, and sometimes even within the same brand. Make sure you don’t limit yourself by just looking through one size rack!

SECRET 2: Use a coupon to save even more money!

Many stores allow customers to use coupons on clearance items. I like to plan out my shopping trips, and try to search for coupons at home before I go to the store. That allows me to read through the fine print on the coupon and see if there are any exclusions. However, if I end up in a store unplanned, I simply whip out my iPhone while shopping and do a quick search for coupons online. You can easily show the cashier the coupon right on your phone without needing to print it. This saves paper, too!

SECRET 3: Only buy items you will actually wear!

I know first hand how tempting it is to buy clothing just because it’s cheap. This is especially true if it’s from a name brand I really like. Always make sure the item you are buying is in good condition, and that you will actually wear it. If you can’t visualize yourself wearing the item regularly (or for a specific event if it is a fancy dress, for example), don’t buy it. It’s better to buy an $80 blouse that you wear every week than ten $10 blouses you don’t really like and end up living in your closet.

SECRET 4: Try items on in the store!

I always try on clothes in the store, but this is even more important when you are buying clearance items, as some stores do not allow returns or exchanges on discounted merchandise. You do not want to be stuck with ill-fitting jeans even if you did spend just $20 on them! Of course, some items can look very different on your body than they do on the hanger, so it’s always helpful to see how it fits your shape, too.

SECRET 5: Look at each item of clothing!

In addition to looking through the entire clearance section, I recommend looking at each individual item of clothing. This is going to be a time consuming process, but I always find more hidden gems when I go through the clearance racks carefully. At my first retail job, my manager taught me how to tidy the hangers by pushing all of the clothing down to the end of the rack, and then moving each item to the other side to neaten it. This is now the technique I use when shopping! You never know what is hidden between bulky sweaters, or falling off a hanger in the middle of a stuffed rack.

That wraps up my five secrets to successful clearance sale shopping! While these tips do require you to take your time looking through the clearance racks, I think it is worth it in the end. You won’t find a hidden gem every time you shop, but I know when I implement these tricks I usually find much more! I hope that you found my shopping secrets helpful, and that you can use them the next time you go shopping! Feel free to share your finds with me on social media using the hashtag #PolishlandSaves!

Because it is really shimmery, it does have a tendency to get messy. Keep your clean-up tools handy! Diamond Geezer is perfect for the winter months, and can be worn alone or in nail art looks. I have it on as I type up this blog post, and am loving how sparkly it is in the light!

Give the Gift of Matching Nails with butter LONDON and Q&Q SmileSolar WatchesHere is my manicure along with my Q&Q watch! It’s definitely a lot of fun to match my nail polish to my accessory. While I wouldn’t do this everyday, I would love to receive a gift this Christmas with a coordinating nail polish and accessory. It makes opening the present even more fun, and it lets the gift-giver think outside the box!

I hope you found this blog post helpful as you continue on with your holiday shopping this year! Q&Q SmileSolar watches can be purchased online HERE at $40 each. I think that is an amazing price for such an eco-friendly watch. Of course, you can grab Diamond Geezer on butter LONDON’s website HERE. I really enjoy wearing casual clothing, but I still like to look polished (pun intended). Plus, fall is the perfect opportunity to start breaking out the jackets and scarves! Fall Fashion featuring Beautiful Scarves | Dressy Casual Day Outfit

The scarf you see in this blog post was sent to me for review from Beautiful-Scarves.com. It is an on-trend black, grey, and white checkered pattern, and is made out of a super soft material. I love how the scarf feels, and it is very warm as well. I wish the scarf were longer, because I really love oversize scarves. However, I can wear it as shown in the pictures, or by tying the ends together and looping it in an infinity design. Plus, this scarf can be worn with practically any outfit, and is unisex. I also love the $11.99 price tag! I was really impressed when the scarf arrived carefully packaged in this gift box, too.

Sole Society

Fall Fashion | Sole Society Wren SneakerI also wanted to feature the sneakers that I’m wearing in this post. I made my first purchase from Sole Society this month, and I am beyond impressed. I was nervous to buy shoes online, because I wasn’t sure how they were going to fit. Because Sole Society offers free returns, I figured I would go for it and order the Wren Slip-On Sneaker. I was super excited when my order arrived and the shoes fit perfectly! Plus, they are really comfortable. I love the faux leather detailing, and the textured fabric is perfect for fall. I am definitely going to be purchasing from Sole Society again in the future! If you would like to save 20% off your first order, please use my referral link HERE.

Fall Fashion featuring Beautiful Scarves | Dressy Casual Day OutfitI hope you enjoyed taking a look at what a typical outfit is for me! I never want to sacrifice my comfort, so I always choose pieces that look a notch dressier than they really are. Plus, a blazer is perfect for the slightly cooler temps of fall, especially when layered with a scarf. I’ll be living in this look all fall long! Be sure to let me know in the comments what you are excited for in terms of fall fashion. Will you be rocking any trends?!

Firmoo Sunglasses Review | Adventures in PolishlandFirmoo Sunglasses Review | Adventures in PolishlandThe frames I chose this time around are in the style FS1008, and feature a black frame with yellow-gold hardware. I decided to go with the darkest lenses available, but you can choose different colors as well. Of course, you can customize your sunnies with your individual prescription so you can see the world! I’m really amazed at how affordable these prescription glasses are. They are such great quality as well!

Fall Office Fashion with Firmoo Sunglasses! | Adventures in PolishlandThe reason I wanted black frames is because this fall I am interning with a judge and knew I’d be wearing a ton of black to the courthouse. Kisspat Statement Necklace Review, Giveaway, & Nail Art!

Happy Saturday! I’m excited to bring you a fun blog post that incorporates fashion, nails, and a giveaway for all of you! I got the opportunity to review a statement necklace from the online boutique Kisspat, and thought I’d show you the jewelry, and in addition create a nail art look inspired by the piece!

NECKLACE REVIEW

Kisspat Statement Necklace ReviewKisspat Statement Necklace Review

Statement Necklace – Product Code KNSN-040M – $8.95 [BUY]

I love statement necklaces, and this design from Kisspat is definitely up my alley! The colors are beautiful, and I like the touch of rhinestones. This necklace is very lightweight, and good quality for the $8.95 price tag. The one main drawback, however, is that the chain turned my neck green! I wore this for about an hour, and had a green band around my neck. I was not a fan of that! I do really love this necklace, though, so I might try to wear it with a high-necked blouse in the future. There are 11 different colors for this product, so you can definitely find the shades that suit you best!

NAIL ART

Kisstpat Necklace Nail ArtKisstpat Necklace Nail ArtI thought this necklace would make a great manicure, so I grabbed some polishes and rhinestones and created a nail art look! I used Color Club’s Aquamarine Azulino from the Gala’s Gems Collection for the blue and Julep’s Alexandra for the neutral shade. I used tweezers to place some rhinestones on my accent nail, and voila! I am loving this nail art look! It’s classy, yet still fun at the same time.

GIVEAWAY

I’m giving away one necklace from Kisspat! Please read the Terms & Conditions in the Rafflecopter widget before entering!
