Adventures in Nail Vinyls Part 2 | Houndstooth Nail Art Fail

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a nail art post to share with you, and as you can see by the title, it’s another fail. A few months back, I tried nail vinyls for the first time, and it did not go very well. You can read all about that HERE. I got the opportunity to review some more products from Born Pretty Store, so I decided I would give nail vinyls another try. Practice makes perfect, right?! Let me share with you what happened during round two of my nail vinyl adventures when I attempted a houndstooth manicure.

First things first, here is a look at the sheet of nail vinyls. I got a houndstooth pattern, and this time around the vinyls are a thicker material and less of a thin sticker. This sheet retails for $3.99 at Born Pretty Store HERE.

Sally Hansen – OMGhostI decided to do a traditional black and white houndstooth manicure, so I began with a white nail polish. I made sure to let it dry completely this time, since in my last attempt the polish wasn’t thoroughly dry. I actually painted my nails one day, and let it dry overnight before going ahead with the vinyls.

Here is my result after applying the vinyls. As you can see, it still didn’t work out for me! I made sure to press down firmly on the vinyls, but I found that these did not stick well on my nails. That’s why I have a lot of big black splotches, and why the pattern isn’t very clear. It really is a bummer!

Adventures in Nail Vinyls Part 2 | Houndstooth Nail Art FailI did practice with the vinyls on my seldom seen on the blog right hand, and I did get a much better result. However, it still doesn’t look good enough for a manicure. I think I’m going to need to keep experimenting with these vinyls if I really want to get a good result.

That brings us to the end of adventures in nail vinyls part two! I know it might seem silly to share these nail art fails with you, but I think it’s important that I share my honest results whenever I review products for the blog. I see amazing nail art from other bloggers all the time, and I absolutely love looking at their masterpieces. As you all may know, my nail art talent is severely lacking, but that doesn’t stop me from trying. If you have trouble with nail art, you’re not alone! We can keep practicing together! As always, if you make a purchase from Born Pretty Store, use the code FZL91 at checkout for an additional 10% off the price. Trying Nail Vinyls for the First Time | Valentine’s Day Nail Art Fail

Happy Friday! As you might know, one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to try out more nail art. I originally began this blog to experiment with nail art after seeing so many great designs on Pinterest, but I quickly realized that nail art is no joke. I find it really challenging, and often have a lot of nail art fails when I’m attempting to come up with designs. Today I’m sharing one of those fails with all of you in hopes that you won’t feel as discouraged when attempting new nail art. I received a set of nail vinyls from Born Pretty Store and was super excited to put them to the test. My first time trying nail vinyls didn’t go as planned! Let me share my Valentine’s Day nail art fail with you!

Here is a look at the sheet of nail vinyls. I received the fish scale design in style number JV203. This sheet comes with twelve vinyls that need to be cut before use. They are designed to work just like striping tape. I thought of these like a stencil. I love that this sheet of vinyls is super affordable at just $1.99 HERE.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Tag Ur ItMy idea for this manicure was a Valentine’s Day ombré. I began with a white base from Sally Hansen Insta-Dri and let it dry completely.

Born Pretty Store Fish Scale Nail VinylsMy first attempt at nail vinyls was a huge fail! I applied the vinyls directly on the nails and pressed them in place. I applied my polish, but when I peeled off the vinyls my nail polish came with it. I was so bummed! My base was dry, so I figured my issue was that the vinyls were just too sticky to go directly on the nails.

Born Pretty Store Fish Scale Nail VinylsFor round two I decided to place the nail vinyls on my hand before putting them on my nails. I did this twice to remove a lot of the stickiness, and then applied them to the nails. However, I didn’t press down firmly on the vinyls. That is where my problems arose this time around. The polish leaked through the vinyls because they weren’t affixed to the nails firmly. However, I can see a lot of progress with this technique!

Born Pretty Store Fish Scale Nail VinylsMy thumb nail actually came out really well during this second attempt. This is what I was trying to accomplish all along! I used a wedge sponge to apply pink nail polish to the base of the nail and a red to the top. I completed the look with a glossy top coat. This is what I hoped to share with you! Alas, it only turned out well on one nail.

Born Pretty Store | Coupon CodeAll in all, I’m so glad I finally got the chance to try out nail vinyls! I do really like this set from Born Pretty Store, and will recommend it. That being said, it’s important to remember that nail art can sometimes be frustrating, especially when trying something new. I look forward to continue trying vinyls in the future. If you have any tips and tricks when it comes to nail vinyls, let me know in the comments! Born Pretty Store Brush Set Review & Nail Art FAIL!

Happy Tuesday! Today’s post is a review of a brush set from Born Pretty Store that led to a nail art fail! I was so excited to receive this set, as I am not a nail art expert and I thought this set would help me create beautiful designs. Well, the set is great, but let’s be real – special brushes aren’t going to magically improve my art skills! I wasn’t going to include my manicure fail, but I wanted to show it so you can see that not all nail polish bloggers are professionals, and because it took me a lot of time and effort to even create this look. Let me just jump right in and share the brush kit and manicure with you!

Born Pretty Store Nail Brush KitThis brush kit comes with six nail art brushes and a dotting tool. The brushes come in all different sizes, and the set even includes a fan brush. The dotting tool is quite small, but definitely a great tool to have in your collection. This set retails for a very affordable $5.46, and can be purchased HERE. The brushes all seem to be very nice quality, though because this is my first nail art brush kit I can’t compare the set to others.

Angled Nail Art BrushI experimented with a lot of the brushes in this set, but unfortunately couldn’t get any great results yet. I think this is definitely a practice makes perfect type of thing! For the manicure you see below, I used this angled brush. I attempted to do a striped design.

Nail Art FAIL Nail Art FAILWell, here’s my manicure fail! I began with Zoya Rooney as a base color, and Rocha for the stripes. I waited until Rooney was dry before painting on my stripes. The brush itself was fine, but my hands were so shaky that I just couldn’t get a straight line. These are my art skills at their finest!

All in all, I’m still glad I got the chance to try out this brush kit from Born Pretty Store. I’m sure with practice my nail art will improve, but I hope you don’t mind that I shared my fail manicure with you today. Believe it or not I worked hard on it! If you have a difficult time making your nail art look good, you are not alone! Don’t get discouraged – you can still get beautiful nails with stickers, rhinestones, etc. Have you ever had a fail manicure? Tell me about it in the comments!
