For today’s Try it on Tuesday I went with a purple from Revlon that I purchased a couple weeks back at CVS. I’ve never tried Revlon before, and to be honest I am a bit disappointed with it. Let me tell you why.
The formula on this polish was definitely off. My first coat came out streaky and uneven, with some areas thicker than others. With a second coat the polish looked much better, yet I still wasn’t won over with the color. I think it just isn’t right for my skin tone (although my mom likes it on me). The real problems occurred when the polish was drying. For some reason I now have tiny, little air bubbles on almost every nail. I know this can happen when you shake the bottle before using the polish, but I didn’t do that so I’m not sure what happened! Tomorrow I am going to try another coat on top to see if that evens everything out. I sure hope it does!
Even though I wasn’t happy with this bottle from Revlon, I won’t give up on the brand just yet. I have another polish that I purchased at the same time as Impulsive that I will try out, too. I do have to say that I am surprised with the lack of quality in this formula. It retails at about $5 at drugstores, and there are plenty of polishes that are cheaper that are much better. What do you think? Have you tried Revlon polishes?
Revlon’s not my fav either… For the price I’d rather get 2 of something or spend a lil more for china glaze.
Maybe try a polish thinner?!?
Definitely. I’ve never tried polish thinner, but I’m not sure if its worth it for this one!
I really
I really love this color, I actually almost bought it! But Revlon polishes do have a tendency to be really mean! They make the prettiest colors and glitters but the formulas are (almost) always too thin or chunky or whatever! For example, Whimsical is like the cutest cotton candy glitter ever but it’s doo sheer and there’s barely any glitter in it, so it ruins it. 🙁
that really stinks! too bad, really. thankfully there are so many other brands to enjoy!
Try several really thin coats, that usually works for me. The bubbles may be from your base coat not being dry enough before applying your polish. I know it happens to mine with several polish brands… like a weird chemical reaction between the two polishes. 😉
oh, thanks for that advice! it’s never happened before so maybe it is just because of this brand.
I have several really old Revlon polishes that I love (10 years old or more) and a few of the newer ones. The newer ones work best for me with a bunch of thin coats. Let me know how it works for you!!
I will! Thanks for the help 🙂
Thank you so much for the comment on my blog. This nail polish looks really pretty, too bad the formula isn’t great.
Of course! I’m sad about the formula, too. Oh well.
I’m not the biggest fan of Revlon either…I usually tend to get the little bubbles too…I don’t know what it is but I just stopped using it 🙁 even though they do have pretty colours!
I’ve been pretty disappointed in Revlon for the past couple of years. It tends to stay gummy forrrrrrrever unless I do about 3 thin coats super far between. Also, the consistency is weird- most polish usually settles out by itself, but it tends to hold the lines.
Strangely though, their glitters and shimmers tend to go fine over another brand’s polish. It’s like they just suck as a base or stand alone color.
That’s so weird! At least now I know.
I got little white bubbles too with the black nail polish.. but it only happened on one nail. So I thought it might have been something weird I did with the top coat.
Interesting. Good to know!
Revlon has always been bad for me. I don’t know if I have ever succeeded in wearing it more than once, even though I have 30.
Wow! That’s a lot of them. I don’t think I’m going to purchase them anymore.
I like Revlon okay, but if I’m going to “splurge” (meaning, not get wet n wild) on nail polish, I go with L’oreal. 🙂
