5 Kitchen Gadgets that Actually Work | Affordable Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Happy Wednesday! Today I’m excited to share with you five kitchen gadgets that actually work. With holiday shopping season now in full swing, I wanted to give you some stocking stuffer ideas. I have used and loved all of the kitchen gadgets featured in this post today, and think anyone who enjoys cooking, or who is looking to learn cooking, will enjoy them as well. What’s better is that all of these products are super affordable and under $15.00 each!

1. Silicone Garlic Peeler – Set of Two for $5.99 [BUY]

This silicone tube is so amazing at peeling garlic! Simply chop off the end of a garlic clove, stick it in the tube, and roll it on the counter. The clove is peeled in seconds, and it works every time! I got mine at Daiso, but you can easily score one on Amazon. I use a ton of garlic in my cooking, and this has cut down on a lot of peeling time for me. Plus, this is small enough to tuck into any kitchen drawer.

2. Jarkey – $4.99 [BUY]

My mom got me a JarKey for Christmas a few years ago, and I absolutely love using it! This handy little tool opens any jar for you with ease. Simply place it on the edge of a jar and gently push down until you hear a pop. Your jar will then open without any struggle on your part. You no longer need a grip, nor will you stick a jar under warm water to loosen the cover. I honestly get so excited to use my JarKey, and highly recommend it!

3. Veggetti Vegetable Spiralizer – $8.59 [BUY]

The next product is another one I was gifted by my mom a few years ago, and that is the Veggett! Yes, this is an As Seen on TV product, but it truly works. This mini vegetable spiralizer easily creates noodles out of your favorite vegetables. Whether you’re looking for a pasta alternative, or simply want to spiralize veggies for your salad, this Veggetti is awesome to have on hand. I love the small, compact size of this spiralizer, as it is easy to store as opposed to the larger models from competitor brands.

4. OXO Good Grips Pro Y-Peeler – $12.99 [BUY]

This is by far the best vegetable peeler I’ve ever used! Not only does the wide grip fit well in my hand, but the blade works flawlessly. The blade is stainless steel, and it can be replaced in the future should it wear out completely. Plus, this peeler is dishwasher safe! While there are more affordable peelers on the market, I think it’s worth the few extra dollars for this one!

5. OXO Good Grips Water Bottle Cleaning Set – $9.95 [BUY]

I love using reusable water bottles and coffee mugs, but they can be really difficult to hand wash. When my nephew was born, I noticed that my brother and sister-in-law had special brushes to clean his baby bottles. Sure enough, there are brushes for all size bottles! This particular set comes with three different attachments, so you can easy clean any shape and size bottle. Pair this fun brush set with a reusable water bottle, and it makes a nice gift!

That wraps up my top five kitchen gadgets that actually work! I hope this post introduced you to some new products, whether you are grabbing them for a stocking stuffer gift or for yourself. As always, I would love to hear from you in the comments! What are your favorite kitchen gadgets?! I love trying out new tools that help save me time and energy whilst cooking!

Vegan Christmas Cookie Recipes I’ve Tried & Loved

Happy Tuesday! This will be my first Christmas on a vegan diet, and I wanted to make sure I could still enjoy my favorite holiday sweets with my family. I spent a lot of time scouring the Internet looking for vegan Christmas cookie recipes, and I’ve found three that I absolutely love. All are based on traditional cookies that my family has made since I was a child. It makes me so happy that I can make the cookies I know and love without animal ingredients! I thought I would share the recipes I’ve found with all of you to make your online search a bit easier.

Peanut Butter Cookies

Recipe: My California Roots [LINK]

I absolutely love peanut butter to the point where I eat some nearly every day. I knew I had to make some peanut butter cookies, and found a recipe from the blog My California Roots that seemed pretty easy. I am always on the lookout for recipes that have simple ingredients already in my pantry, and this one fit the bill. While rolling the cookies definitely takes some time, this recipe is very easy. Plus, the cookies are amazing! They are slightly crispy on the outside, but nice and soft on the inside. If you love peanut butter, you need to try this recipe!

Snickerdoodles

Recipe: The Viet Vegan [LINK]

I really wanted to make Snickerdoodles, as they are one of my dad’s favorite cookies. I scoured the web and found a recipe from The Viet Vegan that I really like. I think I overcooked the cookies just a bit, because they got really crispy once they cooled completely. However, they melt in your mouth and taste beyond delicious. I love enjoying these with a nice cup of coffee! Oh yeah – my non-vegan dad approved as well!

Chocolate Crinkles

Recipe: Everyday Vegan Cooking [LINK]

I wanted to round out my holiday baking with some chocolate cookies. My nephew loves chocolate crinkles, so I wanted to have some on hand for when he is visiting. This vegan version is a lot less intensive than traditional recipes, as there is no need to let the dough chill in the refrigerator. I also had a flashback to my childhood as soon as I bit into one of the cookies! They taste so yummy!

I hope you liked hearing about the three Christmas cookie varieties I made this year. I’m glad I was able to find vegan recipes for some of my favorite traditional cookies. It will be so nice to share these with my family this holiday season!

Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Toddlers | #PolishlandPresents

Happy Friday! It is officially holiday shopping season, and I thought it would be fun to kick things off with some stocking stuffer ideas for the toddlers on your list. This year I am doing something special for my nephew, who is just over two-and-a-half. I decided to put together what I’m calling Aunty Advent, where my nephew can open a small gift every day leading up to Christmas. The items I’ve purchased can definitely work as stocking stuffers as well, so I thought you might find it helpful to see the things I have so far. Let me present to you some stocking stuffer ideas for toddlers!

Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Toddlers | #PolishlandPresents

When I shop for my nephew, I look for items that are fun, but also useful. That means that while all of the gifts shown here are for my nephew, they are not all things he can play with or use on his own. My nephew will open all of these gifts while supervised by his parents, and I will tell my brother and sister-in-law ahead of time to be sure to put away the gifts he can’t use on his own.

Stocking Stuffers for Toddlers | Activities

I’ve browsed the Target Dollar Spot and Dollar Tree for the past few months to see what fun and educational activities I could find. I found a fun matching card game called Same or Different at Target, and it is recommended for ages two and up. Next, I grabbed a pack of Sesame Street stickers from Dollar Tree. My nephew has a lot of Sesame Street books, some of which we read together, so I thought he could use these to make his own sticker collages. We also live far away from one another, so when he “writes” me letters he can use these to decorate. Finally, I grabbed a Rudolph coloring book from Target. This book is clearly outside of my nephew’s skill level, but I think the holiday designs will be fun for him to scribble in, and it will keep him busy for a little while.

Stocking Stuffers for Toddlers | Fun Toys

I also wanted to get my nephew some fun items. This is his third Christmas, and every year I get him a Target ornament. This year I went for an adorable carrot because we love to sing the song Captain Vegetable together (do you know this vintage Sesame Street short?). The only two toys I’ve gotten so far are some Christmas rubber ducks from Target, since he loves to play in the bath. Plus, if you are shopping for more than one child, you can definitely split up this two-pack. Lastly, I snagged some sand toys on clearance at Michaels at the end of the summer. My nephew lives in Southern California, and can visit the beach at any time of year!

Stocking Stuffers for Toddlers | Functional ItemsNext up I have a couple functional items. I got a box of Rudolph bandages from the Target Dollar Spot. This is an item that my nephew cannot play with, but it’s always helpful to have some cute bandages on hand for rambunctious little ones! Similarly, I found some Ninja Turtles socks on clearance at Target. I don’t know if these socks will fit him, but I got a bigger size so he can grow into them if necessary.

Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Toddlers | Snacks

The last category of stocking stuffers is snacks! It’s always nice to have some snacks on hand, and I picked out a few of my newphew’s favorites, as well as some new items. I stuck with healthier options because I really don’t want to give a toddler a bunch of candy. I’m mailing all my gifts, so I also tried to pick snacks that would mail well. If you’re giving a stocking in person, fresh fruit, like oranges and apples, works well, too!

I hope you found this post helpful if you are shopping for toddlers this holiday season! I highly recommend browsing the Target Dollar Spot and Dollar Tree to see the little items you can find, and then hitting up the grocery store for some snacks. I also hope to purchase a book or two, as well as a couple more toys, to round out my Aunty Advent. I know my nephew will really enjoy opening these little presents, and that’s really all that matters!

My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments!

Happy Thursday, and Happy Christmas Eve to all of you who celebrate! I thought it would be fun if I took you on a little tour of my family’s Christmas Tree today by sharing some of my favorite ornaments with you. We have a lot of ornaments on the tree, and there is a huge variety. I, of course, have certain ornaments that are important to me for different reasons. Let me show you some of my favorite Christmas Tree ornaments!

My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments! | Adventures in Polishland

Minnie Mouse

My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments! | Adventures in Polishland

Let’s begin with my Minnie Mouse collection! I’ve been a huge Minnie Mouse fan for my entire life, and that is certainly reflected on the Christmas Tree. I’ve received several Minnie ornaments as gifts over the years, and I’ve picked up a couple on my own, too. I’m showing you two of my many Minnies in this post. I know the personalized one came from my parents, but I have no clue where I got the other one. It’s vintage at this point!

Barbie

My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments! | Adventures in Polishland

Another one of my ornament collections is my Barbie collection! Hallmark has put out a few different Barbie series during my lifetime, and I’ve gotten one every year since 1993 (except for last year, when there wasn’t a Barbie released). You can see my first-ever Barbie on the left, and my Barbie from this year on the right. These ornaments are so special to me, and I hope to continue getting a Barbie ornament every year. One day I hope to have a Barbie tree that is hot pink!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments! | Adventures in Polishland

This next ornament is special to me not because I love the film The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but because this was the first purchase I ever made in Disney World! My family went to Disney World for the first time when I was in first grade, and we went to Magic Kingdom on the first night when we arrived. I got this at Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square for $4.95 (yes – the price tag is still on the box!). I saved up all my birthday money for our Disney trip, and was so excited to spend it on souvenirs galore. That first night in Disney World was so magical for me. I will never forget when Minnie Mouse waved to me during the parade! This ornament represents that magic even 20 years later.

Boston Celtics

My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments! | Adventures in Polishland

Last but not least, I’ve always been a huge Celtics fan, and my parents got me this engraved ornament a few years back. It’s the only Celtics ornament I have, and I love putting it on the tree. It’s so classy, and I love that it’s handmade as well!

That wraps up my post on my favorite Christmas Tree ornaments! I hope you enjoyed this mini tour of my tree! Please share your favorite ornaments with me in the comments, or tag me on social media in a photo. I’d love to see your ornaments! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

Silver and Gold Christmas Manicure | Sally Hansen Celeb City and Julep Vivien

Happy Monday! I can’t believe Christmas is just a few days away! I thought I would share a simple manicure to put together to help celebrate the season. I recently watched Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys, and I’ve been humming the song Silver and Gold. I don’t see many silver and gold manicures, so I created my own! Let me show you my silver and gold nail polish look!
Silver and Gold Christmas Manicure | Adventures in PolishlandI began my silver and gold manicure with a base of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Celeb City. I applied two coats and let that dry before applying my gold glitter. For my silver and gold effect, I looked for a gold chunky glitter, and found the perfect polish in Julep Vivien. I applied two coats of Viven and let that dry before using a glossy top coat. This manicure is so easy to create, but it looks so festive! If you’re not a fan of the typical red and green color scheme during Christmas, definitely try this out for yourself. You can use any silver and gold polishes you own!

All in all, I’m loving my silver and gold manicure. It is quick if you’re in a rush, and can go with any outfit this holiday season! Plus, if you have long-wearing polish it can last all the way through until New Year’s! Definitely let me know if you’ll be trying out a silver and gold manicure in the comments.

The weather outside is frightful, but these stories are delightful! When a huge blizzard (that doesn’t show signs of stopping) hits, Gracetown is completely snowed in. But even though it’s cold outside, things are heating up inside, proving that the holiday season is magical when it comes to love. In three wonderfully (and hilariously!) interconnected tales, YA stars John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson create a must-have collection that captures all the spirit of the holiday season.

BOOK REVIEW

While I wouldn’t call myself a seasonal reader, I was very excited to pick up Let it Snow as soon as the holiday season began. There is something magical about Christmas stories, and Let it Snow contains three. I had no idea that the three stories in the book are interconnected, and that was a great surprise for me. Each story takes place in Gracetown, a small town that is experiencing a huge snowstorm on Christmas Eve. In each story we follow a different cast of characters, but, of course, each is a holiday romance. They are sweet, silly, and super enjoyable.

The book begins with Maureen Johnson’s The Jubilee Express. This is my favorite story in the book, and it follows Jubilee as she travels south by train to visit her grandparents in Florida after her parents are thrown in jail on Christmas Eve. I really enjoyed Johnson’s writing – it is snarky and funny, and flows really well. Even though The Jubilee Express features the insta-love trope popular in a lot of young adult fiction, it was enjoyable in this short story.

The second story is by none other than John Green, and is called A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle. I was quite disappointed that Green decided to use a gay slur in his story, and that his characters used the R-word (more information on that HERE). Otherwise, I really enjoyed his story, which follows Tobin and his group of friends attempting to visit the local Waffle House after a bunch of cheerleaders get stranded there. Of course, it is quite outlandish, but it’s a lot of fun, and perfect for the holidays.

Finally, Lauren Myracle’s story is called The Patron Saint of Pigs. It has a very different feel than the other two stories in the book, and is my least favorite simply due to the main character Addie’s negative demeanor. Nonetheless, I still thought it was enjoyable, and I loved how it rounded up the overall story of Let it Snow.

All in all, Let it Snow is a great book to pick up during Christmastime, and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a holiday-themed read. Keep in mind that it is a little bit corny, but I think it is justified during this time of year. I am definitely going to be rereading this during Christmases to come.

Holiday Lace Nail Art featuring Born Pretty Store Hollow Lace Stamping Plate & Silver Stamping Polish

Happy Friday! My adventures in stamping continue today with a holiday themed manicure. Born Pretty Store sent me some of its new stamping products to review, and because December is here I felt like a holiday manicure was in order. Born Pretty Store Lace Nail Stamping PlateThe Hollow Lace stamping plate comes with three strips of different lace patterns. I like that there are a variety of looks you can achieve with just this one plate, because you can stamp over the floral, over the netting, or a combination of your choice. I do want to point out that I photographed the stamping plate with the blue lining still on it, just so you would be able to see the pattern without a reflection in the metal. This plate can be purchase on Born Pretty Store’s website for just $3.59 HERE.Born Pretty Store – Hollow Lace Stamping Plate

Here is a closer look at the stamping plate. Feel free to click on the photo to see the designs in even more detail! I decided to test out the middle design that has the floral area towards the bottom.

Holiday Lace Nail Art | Adventures in Polishland Holiday Lace Nail Art | Adventures in PolishlandI began my Holiday Lace nail art with KBShimmer Chilly Pepper, and once it was dry used Born Pretty Store Stamping Polish in Silver to stamp. I am so impressed with this manicure! The silver polish is amazing for stamping, although a bit messy during cleanup because of the rich shimmer. Nonetheless, I found that it’s really simple to use the Hollow Lace stamping plate, because you can’t mess up the pattern – it looks great no matter which direction it ends up on the nail! This look is so festive, and I’m loving it. You can purchase the silver polish for just $3.99 HERE.

Santa Claus Manicure featuring Gold Nail Stickers from Born Pretty Store

I decided to go with a Santa Claus theme for my manicure. I began with a base of white nail polish, and let that dry completely. Then, I used a red polish to get a gradient effect using the Eyeshadow Sponge Method seen HERE. Finally, I added on the stickers! From left to right, there is a Christmas Tree, Santa Claus, Merry Christmas script, and another Santa Claus. I really love how this manicure looks! The red and white gradient adds a fun background for the gold stickers. Plus, the stickers fit really well on my nails. I used a glossy top coat over the stickers to ensure they stay in place. Removal is also very easy – just use the tin foil method.
