5 Beauty Brands I Wish Would Go Vegan!

Happy Monday! Today I thought it would be fun to share with you my top five beauty brands that I wish would go vegan. Of course, in a perfect world, all brands would stop testing on animals and using animal ingredients and byproducts. That being said, there are a handful of brands that I really miss using now that I’m vegan. While I can almost always find vegan replacements for products I used to enjoy, there are a few things that I would love to be able to repurchase with a vegan formula. Here are the five beauty brands that I wish would go vegan!

1. Sally Hansen

Adventures in Polishland began purely as a nail polish blog, and my favorite brand was always Sally Hansen. Not only does Sally Hansen have extremely budget friendly options, but the quality of the polishes is excellent as well. From the ultra-affordable Xtreme Wear line, to the stunning Miracle Gel formulas, I could always find a polish I loved from this drugstore brand. I would love to see Sally Hansen go vegan, as it can be difficult to find affordable vegan nail polishes at the drugstore.

2. CoverGirl

Another drugstore brand I miss using is CoverGirl. My favorite product was the TruBlend Liquid Makeup foundation. I went through several bottles of this product, and it was my go to foundation. I also really liked the Clump Crusher mascara. While I have been able to find a drugstore foundation from Wet ‘n Wild that I like, it still doesn’t compare to my old faithful TruBlend. Plus, it would be great if this classic makeup brand would take a stance against animal cruelty, and provide customers with affordable and vegan products.

3. Benefit

The one high end brand on this list is Benefit. I liked testing and trying a lot of Benefit’s products, but the ones I miss the most are the blushes. My go to shade for years was Hervana, and I even had a Benefit blush palette that I used all the time. I currently love the blushes I use from Tarte, but the vegan shades I own are all limited edition. I would love for Benefit to stop testing on animals and begin creating product formulas that do not contain any animal derived ingredients.

4. L’Oreal

When it comes to hair care, I really miss the L’Oreal shampoos, conditioners, and styling products I used to use. Not only are L’Oreal hair products really affordable, but they were also very effective in caring for my hair. Since going vegan, I’ve struggled to find products that work as well at the same price point. I don’t mind spending more if it means getting a vegan product, but it would be awesome if L’Oreal would commit to going vegan. I also need to mention that the L’Oreal mascaras were some of my absolute favorites. Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could buy the Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara again?!

5. Rimmel

Last but not least is Rimmel, another budget friendly brand from the drugstore. The main reason I miss Rimmel is because the brand makes my Holy Grail setting powder in the Stay Matte Pressed Powder. I went through several of these powders, and am having a hard time finding a vegan dupe. Of course, I also loved the Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation and the Keep Calm Lip Balms. I hope that Rimmel will take a stance against animal cruelty, and go vegan very soon!

Some Final Thoughts

It’s important to note that many of the brands I mentioned today either claim to be cruelty free, or write misleading animal testing policies on their websites. I highly recommend checking out sources like Ethical Elephant, Logical Harmony, and Cruelty Free Kitty if you are ever unsure about a brand’s cruelty free or vegan status. Please click HERE to learn more about why Benefit, L’Oreal, and Rimmel are not cruelty free.

Moreover, while I do miss using some non-vegan products, particularly the ones mentioned today, going cruelty free and vegan is overall quite easy and always worth the extra effort. There are so many brands that are either 100% vegan, or offer a lot of vegan products. I can still go to the drugstore or Target and pick up many of the products I need, or I can place an online order with Ulta, Vitacost, or Sephora if I have trouble finding things in the store. I highly encourage you to transition to a cruelty free and vegan lifestyle, and I think you will find it is much easier than you expect!

Dare to Compare | Comparing 4 Bright Pink Nail Polishes

Happy Tuesday! I told you in my last Dare to Compare post that my love for pink polishes is strong, and bright pink is one of my favorite shades to wear. In fact, one of my first ever Dare to Compare posts back in 2013 featured three bright pink polishes (read it HERE). Today I have four more polishes to compare with all of you. I’ll be reviewing each polish individually, and swatching them side-by-side to see the colors together.

Milani Color Statement – Hot Pink Rage Milani Color Statement – Hot Pink RageFirst up is Hot Pink Rage from Milani’s Color Statement line. Hot Pink Rage has a perfect formula that is opaque in one coat! I did apply two in the photos above to see if I could achieve a richer pigmentation, but one coat is definitely all you need. Hot Pink Rage is definitely a deeper pink in shade, while still being very bright.

Milani – Raspberry Delight Milani – Raspberry DelightNext up is Raspberry Delight from Milani’s older nail polish line that is now discontinued. Raspberry Delight has a good formula, but it did get a bit streaky during application. I applied two coats for opacity, and I can see some uneven texture in the finish. This is a gorgeous pink, and a bit lighter in shade than Hot Pink Rage. Raspberry Delight does have a very subtle shimmer in the bottle, but I can’t see it on my nails at all.

Covergirl – Tickled Pink Covergirl – Tickled PinkTickled Pink from Covergirl is up next, another polish I’ve owned for several years now. Tickled Pink has an amazing formula that is opaque in two coats. It applies really smoothly, and just looks amazing on my nails. I’ve had great luck with Covergirl polishes, and Tickled Pink is one of my favorites!

Priti NYC – Nice Gal PeonyPriti NYC – Nice Gal Peony

Last but not least is Nice Gal Peony from Priti NYC. Nice Gal Peony also has an excellent formula. It applies well and is opaque in two coats, and just so pretty! I also like that this polish is made in the USA by a smaller brand. I do take those things into consideration when buying products, because it’s always nice to support companies in my own country.

Dare to Compare | Comparing 4 Bright Pink Nail Polishes Dare to Compare | Comparing 4 Bright Pink Nail PolishesHere is a look at all four polishes together. From left to right are: Milani Color Statement in Hot Pink Rage, Milani in Raspberry Delight, Covergirl in Tickled Pink, and Priti NYC in Nice Gal Peony. It is obvious from the comparison that these polishes are not exact duplicates for one another despite being very similar. Hot Pink Rage and Tickled Pink are almost dupes, but they are slightly different. It’s so difficult for me to declutter any of these polishes, because they all have such great formulas. However, there is no need for me to keep all four, so I’m letting go of Raspberry Delight and Tickled Pink.

All in all, I’m surprised that these bright pink polishes are more different in shade than I first anticipated! Sometimes the way a polish looks in the bottle is not exactly how it dries on the nails. That is certainly the case with some of these pink shades! As always, I would love to know what bright pink polishes are your favorites. Please share in the comments!

Dare to Compare | Covergirl Sapphire Flare vs Julep Char

Happy Wednesday! Today I have another nail polish comparison to share with you, this time a good matchup between a drugstore polish and a higher end brand. I’ve been really impressed with the Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant line ever since it hit stores, so I just had to see how close in shade it is to a Julep polish I own as well. Let me share these polishes with you individually, and then side-by-side.

Covergirl – Sapphire Flare Covergirl – Sapphire FlareFirst up is Sapphire Flare from Covergirl, a deep navy blue creme polish. Sapphire Flare is an excellent polish. It is opaque in one coat and applies smoothly to the nail. I am wearing two coats in the photos above, just because adding a second layer adds to the high-gloss finish and deepens the pigmentation just a bit. Sapphire Flare is a great navy to have in your nail polish collection.

Julep – Char Julep – CharNext up is Julep Char, another navy blue creme, but with a brighter blue shade. Char also has a really good formula that is opaque in two coats. It tends to be a bit streaky, but nothing unmanageable for sure. Char is a gorgeous polish, and a good one to get from Julep if you’re picking out a polish for your monthly Maven subscription.

Covergirl Sapphire Flare vs Julep Char Covergirl Sapphire Flare vs Julep CharHere is a look at Sapphire Flare and Char side-by-side. I’m wearing Sapphire Flare on my pinky and ring fingers and Char on my middle and pointer fingers. As you can see, the colors are very, very similar, but not exact duplicates. Sapphire Flare is almost a black, while in Char you can see the blue quite clearly. These are both great polishes, but I much prefer the shade of Sapphire Flare, and will be keeping that one in my collection.

All in all, I’m glad I tested out these polishes together so I can recommend them both to you. My top choice is definitely Sapphire Flare, which can be purchased at the drugstore or on Amazon HERE for around $5.00. I’m excited to wear this navy shade when fall rolls around! Definitely let me know your favorite navy polish in the comments!

Dare to Compare | Covergirl Out of the Blue vs Priti NYC Canterbury Bells

Happy Wednesday! Today I am continuing my nail polish comparison series with a look at two true blue polishes. Sometimes polishes look exactly the same in the bottle, but then end up being different once applied to the nails. I find that really interesting, and that is the case with the polishes I’m trying out today! This is my most challenging Dare to Compare yet, because I love both Covergirl Out of the Blue and Priti NYC Canterbury Bells. Let me share individual reviews of these polishes with you, and then share a side-by-side look.

Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant – Out of the Blue Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant – Out of the Blue

First up is Out of the Blue from the Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail polish line. Out of the Blue is an amazing nail polish! The formula is excellent, and a one-coat formula. I did apply two coats in the photos above out of habit, but if you’re in a rush one coat will definitely suffice. I love that Out of the Blue is super fabulous and affordable. Covergirl polishes retail for around $5.49, plus you can shop during sales and use coupons for added savings!

Priti NYC – Canterbury Bells Priti NYC – Canterbury BellsNext up is Canterbury Bells from the boutique brand Priti NYC. Canterbury Bells also has an excellent formula, but two coats are definitely required with this one. I love how richly pigmented this polish is. There is just something about a true blue polish that I obsess over all the time. The only drawback with this polish for me is the $15 price tag, but you are supporting a small company that creates vegan nail polish right here in the USA!

Covergirl Out of the Blue vs Priti NYC Canterbury Bells Covergirl Out of the Blue vs Priti NYC Canterbury Bells

Here is a look at Out of the Blue and Canterbury Bells side-by-side. I have Out of the Blue on my pinky and ring fingers and Canterbury Bells on my middle and pointer fingers. It is clear that these polishes are not exactly the same. Canterbury Bells is a bit darker than Out of the Blue. Of course, they are extremely similar, and there really isn’t a reason for me to own both of these polishes. As I type this post I am still deciding which polish to keep. I love them both for different reasons, but I think I’m going to hang onto Out of the Blue. That one coat formula is just calling out to me!

All in all, I’m glad I tested out these polishes side-by-side. I love both of these polishes and definitely recommend them to all of you.  If you would like to splurge on a higher end polish, Canterbury Bells is a great one, and can be purchased online HERE. If you’re looking for a budget friendly polish, Out of the Blue is perfect for you! Let me know in the comments what your favorite true blue polish is, as I would love to know!

New Covergirl Product Reviews | Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm + Plumpify blast PRO Mascara

Happy Friday! Today I am super excited to be sharing full reviews of two new products from the brand Covergirl. I received these products from Influenster, and I am really glad I did. I am a huge Covergirl fan, and I love that the brand’s products are fabulous and affordable. The two products I received are the Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm and the Plumpify blast PRO Mascara. I have full reviews and swatches of each of these products for you, so let’s jump right into the post!

New Covergirl Product Reviews | Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm + Plumpify blast PRO Mascara

Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm

Covergirl Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm in Soda
Covergirl Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm in Soda

First up is the Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm in the shade Soda. I am so impressed with this lip balm! It reminds me of the high end Fresh Sugar lip balms – it even has the same smell! I got the shade Soda, which is a berry mauve shade. I’m very impressed with how pigmented this lip balm is, and it feels really nice on the lips!

Covergirl Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm in Soda
Covergirl Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Lip Balm in Soda

Here are swatches both on my arm and on the lips. Soda is a bit darker than I would normally wear, so I’m hoping there are other shades in this line. The formula is just amazing! I highly recommend this for sure.

Plumpify blast PRO Mascara

Covergirl Plumpify blast PRO Mascara in Very BlackCovergirl mascara is always hit or miss for me, so I was a little nervous to try this one. I received the shade Very Black, which is what I wear regularly. The Plumpify blast PRO is designed to give extreme plump and life with a 50x volume claim. I like that there is an actual before and after photograph right on the box!

Covergirl Plumpify blast PRO Mascara in Very Black
Covergirl Plumpify blast PRO Mascara in Very Black

Here is a look at the packaging, which is a sleek black and red color. I am in love with the red applicator! It is my favorite type of brush, and has a unique swirly form. The brush also has a rounded tip similar to Benefit’s They’re Real! This tip helps to push apart stubborn lashes, and works wonders on bottom lashes.

Covergirl Plumpify blast PRO Mascara in Very BlackThe formula for me is a bit on the heavy side. This is definitely a wet mascara, and I much prefer dry formulas. Nonetheless, I do get great volume with the Plumpify. My lashes did clump a bit because of the heavy formula, but I am liking the look. I also love that this mascara is hypoallergenic and removes with soap and water. Any time a mascara comes off with a makeup remover wipe I know it’s a good one!

All in all, I am very much loving these new products from Covergirl! They are both amazing quality, and I recommend them. If you prefer a dry mascara, Plumpify might not be for you, so take that into consideration. Otherwise, I know I’ll be using both of these products on a regular basis! Keep an eye at your local drugstore, or shop online using the widget provided. Definitely let me know in the comments if you’ll be purchasing these!

Top 10 Beauty Products of 2015!

Happy Wednesday! Today’s Top 10 post is the last in this year’s series, and features my favorite beauty products of 2015. I used to wear makeup only for special occasions, and it’s amazing to me how I’ve really come to love beauty products. I tried out some amazing products this year, some from the drugstore and others that are high end splurges. I’m excited to share my Top 10 Beauty Products of 2015 with you, so let’s jump right into the post!

Top 10 Beauty Products of 2015! | Adventures in Polishland

10. Cargo Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos [REVIEW] [BUY]

Cargo Water Resistant Blush in Los CabosI got this bright coral blush in a Birchbox, and was surprised at how much l loved it! The blush is very pigmented, and has quite a bit of shimmer. Somehow it looked great on my fair skin! I wore it a ton this past summer. It is a high end product, but worth the splurge if you’re looking for an amazing blush.

9. L’Oreal True Match LUMI Powder Glow Illuminator in Rose [REVIEW] [BUY]

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator in RoseI was really excited to find a new highlighter line at the drugstore by L’Oreal. I had to get the rose gold one, just because I love anything rose gold. This highlight is no exception! It is quite shimmery, but it works. I wore it a lot in the summer and fall, and will definitely reach for it again once winter is over. Don’t forget to use coupons on this one!

8. CoverGirl TruBlend Liquid Makeup in L2 [REVIEW] [BUY]

My holy grail liquid foundation is the TruBlend from CoverGirl. It is a medium coverage, and perfect for everyday wear. I do mix it up with other foundations and bases, but I know I can always count on it. Plus, my skin loves CoverGirl products! I never break out. In fact, my skin stays clearer when I wear CoverGirl foundation on a regular basis. Of course, I love that it’s only around $10 at the drugstore!

7. Fresh Sugar Tulip Tinted Lip Treatment [REVIEW] [BUY]

I’ve been a huge fan of the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments ever since I got a free sample duo as a Sephora Birthday gift a few years back. I’ve never purchased a full size for myself because they are quite expensive, but I love them! The shade Tulip is a pretty pink. It has the same amazing smell and feel of the original, but with a sheer wash of color.

6. NYX Buter Gloss in Creme Brulee [REVIEW] [BUY]

Another lip product that I’m loving is the NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee. It is a ‘my lips but better’ color for me, and it feels so nice on my lips. I definitely reach for lip glosses more often, simply because they are low maintenance when compared to a lipstick. I also love that this NYX gloss is super fabulous and affordable!

5. Luv2Kiss Invisible Lip Liner [REVIEW] [BUY]

Luv2Kiss Invisible Lip Liner Review

Can you tell I love lip products?! This one is a must have for any makeup lover, because it is an Invisible Lip Liner that can be worn under any lip product. It makes me feel more confident because I know my lip product will stay inside my lip line and will last longer. Make sure you grab one, too!

4. elf Studio Blush Palette in Light [REVIEW] [BUY]

ELF Studio Blush Palette in Light | Review & Swatches

I’ve been really into blushes and other face powders this year, and one of my favorite blush purchases is this elf Studio Blush Palette. Not only is this palette extremely affordable, but the blushes are fabulous quality, too. I definitely wear the shades labeled 1 and 2 on a regular basis. I highly recommend purchasing this palette!

3. Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in Dolly [HAUL] [BUY]

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in DollyI’ve become really obsessed with Buxom in the past couple of months, and my favorite lip product thus far is Dolly. It is the perfect shade of mauve-pink, and it is so easy to wear. Plus, it feels great on my lips. I’ve been reaching for this consistently since I got it, and even wore it for Christmas Eve!

2. BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop [REVIEW] [BUY]

BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop

I splurged on the Jaclyn Hill highlighter from BECCA because I had been hearing so many great things about it, and I am so glad I did! This product is just beyond stunning. I wore it nearly everyday for a month when I first got it, and have continued to reach for it regularly since then. Even if you are fair-skinned like me, I say go for it. I love how it looks!

1. elf Angled Blush Brush [HAUL] [BUY]

I never would have predicted that my favorite beauty product of the year would be a $3 makeup brush from elf! I bought this brush on a whim and it quickly became a go-to for me. It applies any blush evenly and beautifully. The angle helps to control the product, and can work for contouring and highlighting as well. Plus, the brush is super soft. I’m amazed by it, and highly recommend it!

All in all, I’ve tried so many amazing beauty products in 2015! I hope this post helped you discover some new products. Be sure to let me know in the comments what your favorites of the year were as well. I’m looking forward to trying even more goodies in 2016!

My Top 5 Dark Nail Polishes for Fall | #FallintoPolishland

Happy Monday! My fall nail polish series #FallintoPolishland continues today with my top five dark nail polishes. When I first began my blog three and a half years ago, I absolutely avoided dark polishes! I was into brights and neons, but when I first received dark nail polishes for review I was converted. I now absolutely love dark polishes, especially in the colder months. Let me go ahead and share my favorites with you!

My Top 5 Dark Nail Polishes for Fall | #FallintoPolishland

LVX – Dahlia LVX – Dahlia

LVX – Dahlia [BUY]

First up is Dahlia from the high end brand LVX. This is a deep crimson polish that has a great formula. Dahlia is perfect for those of us who don’t like the traditional red nail. It looks beautiful even on those with the fairest skin tone. LVX is a vegan brand, so I think it’s worth the higher price tag!

Covergirl – Sapphire Flare Covergirl – Sapphire Flare

Covergirl – Sapphire Flare [BUY]

I, of course, have to include a couple dark blue polishes, as blue is my go-to shade in the fall. Sapphire Flare from Covergirl is a great option from the drugstore. It is a navy polish that is opaque in two coats. While dark, the polish is still very blue in color. Plus, this shade is great for nail art as well!

Milani – Ink SpotMilani – Ink Spot

Milani – Ink Spot [BUY]

Next up is Ink Spot from Milani, an even darker blue polish. Ink Spot has an amazing, high-gloss formula. It is nearly black, but still has a rich blue pigmentation. Ink Spot also has undertones of purple, so take that into consideration when you’re deciding between it and Sapphire Flare!

Julep – Brandt Julep – Brandt

Julep – Brandt [BUY]

One of my all-time favorite Juleps is Brandt, an off-black polish from the Trina Turk collection. Brandt has an amazing formula that is opaque in two coats. It looks good with any outfit because the color is not a stark black. Brandt looks great layered under glitter, or on its own! It’s been a staple of mine for the past three years.

Michael Marcus – Once You Go Matte Michael Marcus – Once You Go Matte

Michael Marcus – Once You Go Matte [BUY]

Last but not least is Once You Go Matte from Michael Marcus. I really love matte nail polish, and it’s always a bonus when a polish has a matte formula because I don’t have to reach for a separate top coat. Once You Go Matte has an amazing formula that dries quickly. I’ve worn it countless times since I got it!

That wraps up another #FallintoPolishland post! I hope you were inspired to grab some of your dark nail polishes out of the back of your collection to wear this season. If you’ve shied away from darks in the past, now is the perfect time to try them out! Of course, please share your favorite dark nail polishes with me in the comments!

Back to School Week | Daily Makeup for School

Happy Wednesday! Today for Back to School Week I’m going to be sharing my go to makeup products for school. There are a lot of factors to consider when getting ready for school every morning. You want your makeup to last all day, feel light and comfortable, and be quick to apply in the morning. I am also a huge fan of wearing minimal and natural makeup to school. I’ll be showing you the makeup products that I use on a daily basis, whether I’m heading to school or not. They are all drugstore products, and won’t break your student budget. Let’s jump right into my favorite daily makeup!

Back to School Week | Daily Makeup for School

FACE PRODUCTS

Daily Makeup for School | Face ProductsI like to stick with a three product system for my face makeup. First, I use a primer. This will ensure my makeup stays put all day. A great option from the drugstore is Maybelline Baby Skin. It measures up to other high end face primers for a fraction of the price. I then follow up with a liquid foundation. My all-time favorite is the Covergirl trueBLEND, which is under $10 at the drugstore and comes in a wide range of shades. It is a light to medium coverage, but is quite buildable. It also blends out really well. Finally, I set my foundation with the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. This is a cult favorite, and I’ve repurchased it what feels like a dozen times. It is beyond awesome at keeping your face matte and in place all day – take my word for it.

EYE PRODUCTS

Daily Makeup for School | Eye ProductsI keep my eye makeup very simple on a daily basis, especially when I was in school. I think there are really only two must have products. First is a good eyebrow product. I love using the Milani Brow Fix Kit because it contains everything I need to fill in my brows – brow powder in two shades, a highlighter, tweezers, angled brush, and sponge applicator. I’ve tried a lot of drugstore eyebrow products, and this is by far my favorite. Next, I love a good mascara. It adds a lot to your face without being much trouble. My favorite of the moment is the Covergirl The Super Sizer. It lengthens and adds volume in one!

BLUSH & HIGHLIGHTER

Daily Makeup for School | Blush & Highlighter

While I like to keep my makeup pretty simple, blush and highlighter are quick ways to add some dimension and color. I’ve been completely obsessed with the new L’Oreal Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator in the shade Rose for highlighter. It’s so beautiful and wearable! In addition, I love the elf Studio Blush Palette in Light, which I reviewed HERE. This $6 palette includes four different blushes, so you can pick a shade based on your mood and outfit. It’s awesome!

LIP PRODUCTS

Daily Makeup for School | Lip Products

Last but not least are lip products! One of my most used lip products is the Revlon ColorBurst Balm Stain in the shade Honey. It stays on all day through eating and drinking, so it’s perfect for going to school. Another product that I love is the NYX Butter Gloss in the shade Créme Brulee. It is a great ‘my lips but better’ color, and can be worn over the Revlon stain or on its own. These are both a great way to finish your daily makeup look!

–––––––––––––––––––

That brings us to the end of the post! I hope you enjoyed seeing what my daily makeup is for school. Of course, you an make this your own by adding more products, or simply wearing just powder and mascara. The key is to be comfortable so you can focus on your studies and not worry about your face. Make sure to stay tuned as Back to School Week continues!

What are your go-to makeup products for school? Let me know in the comments!

Back to School Week | Drugstore Nail Polish Kit

Happy Monday! It is officially the first day of Back to School Week here at Adventures in Polishland! I thought it would be fun to share with you a drugstore nail polish kit for back to school. This kit contains six different nail polishes that I think are the absolute basics to have in your collection. If you have these six polishes, you will be able to create the perfect manicure for any situation! Instead of telling you specific nail polishes that I think you need, I’m going to tell you general categories and share a nail polish for each category. This will make more sense as the post goes along, so let me share this kit with you!

Back to School Week | Drugstore Nail Polish Kit

THE WHITE POLISH

SinfulColors – Snow Me WhiteSinfulColors – Snow Me White

First and foremost, every nail polish kit needs a basic white nail polish. White can be worn alone, it can be used in nail art, and it can be used under any nail polish to make the color more vivid. I highly recommend Snow Me White from SinfulColors because it retails for just $1.99 but has an amazing formula as well. I did a full review of this polish, so click HERE if you want to learn more!

THE NEUTRAL POLISH

Wet 'n Wild Megalast – Bite the BulletWet ‘n Wild Megalast – Bite the Bullet

The next necessity is a neutral polish, whether it be a beige, brown, grey, or taupe. Neutrals are perfect for interviews, your internship, or any other professional event. I like Bite the Bullet from Wet ‘n Wild Megalast because it is a mauve polish that is still neutral, but has a hint of color, too. The Megalast line is also $1.99 at drugstores, and comes in a wide range of shades.

THE GLITTER TOP COAT

Milani Cosmetics – Rainbow PrismsMilani Cosmetics – Rainbow Prisms

It’s always great to have a glitter top coat at the ready as it dresses up any manicure. I layered one coat of Rainbow Prisms from Milani over Bite the Bullet, and you can see how my professional manicure turned into a fun one instantly. Whether you’re going from day to night, or simply want to change up your nails without redoing them completely, a glitter top coat is a must. I love any holographic glitter like the one shown here, but a multi-colored glitter is a good choice, too.

THE FAST-DRYING FORMULA

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri – Blue-AwaySally Hansen Insta-Dri – Blue Away

Make sure you have at least one polish with a fast-drying formula in your kit! We all have those moments where we are running out the door while simultaneously hoping our nail polish doesn’t smudge. This is especially true when going back to school, whether you’re the student or parent! My favorite fast-drying formula is the Insta-Dri line from Sally Hansen. The line offers a plethora of different shades, but I picked one of my favorites to show you here. I also recommend the NYC New York Color In a New York Minute range.

THE DARK AND VAMPY POLISH

With fall around the corner, dark nails are sure to be on trend once again. You’ll want to have a dark and vampy polish in your kit, but it doesn’t have to be black. Feel free to choose dark purples, maroons, greens, or anything else that suits your tastes. I chose to go with Night Flight, a dark blue polish. Of course, it has the same Insta-Dri formula that I love as well.

THE PINK POLISH

Last but not least, I had to include a pink polish in this drugstore nail polish kit! Pink is my all-time favorite shade of polish. It’s classic, it’s fun, and it comes in a variety of shades. My favorite is a bright pink like Tickled Pink from Covergirl. I know red may be the ‘true’ classic nail color, but pink is where it’s at for me! Plus, pink is more youthful, so it’s great for the classroom. I even wore a bright pink on my first day of law school!
