Indie Spotlight: Above the Curve in Funilla Icing

Happy Friday! Today is the last post to feature an indie brand from my current giveaway! I hope you have enjoyed these reviews as much as I enjoyed showing you these amazing polishes. I saved Above the Curve’s Funilla Icing for the last post because it is birthday themed, and my birthday is tomorrow! Don’t forget, my giveaway ends at midnight. Enter now before time runs out, and let me show you this delicious polish from Above the Curve!

Funilla Icing is a polish with a white base and a mix of rainbow, hexagonal glitters mixed in. I applied three coats in the photos above, and although the polish was not completely opaque on its own, I still loved the look! If you want to achieve opacity, begin with a base of white polish first. Funilla Icing’s formula was great! No streaks or clumps, and it dries quickly. I absolutely love this polish! It really does look like Funfetti icing, too. I also got lots of compliments on this polish from classmates when I wore it. Funilla Icing is a super fun polish!

You can buy Above the Curve polishes on Etsy HERE. For each polish that you purchase, $1 is donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children!

Also, don’t forget that you can win a bottle of Funilla Icing in my giveaway! Enter HERE before it ends at midnight!

Indie Spotlight: Charm Your Nails in Instant Gratification & Follow the Chartreuse Brick Road

Today I have another post for you featuring an indie brand that is sponsoring my giveaway!  Charm Your Nails sent me two amazing polishes from her shop to review for you. I am in love with both of them and highly recommend her shop! Let me show you the gorgeous, glitter topcoats from Charm Your Nails!

Firs up is Instant Gratification, which I layered over Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Lacey Lilac (see Lacey Lilac on its own HERE). Instant Gratification is filled with black, white, and purple glitters, with some fine pink glitter thrown in the mix. There are black and white bar glitters, white hexagonal glitters, and purple and black square glitters (my favorite!). Not only does Instant Gratification look amazing, but the formula is easy to work with and dries quickly. I applied two coats in the photos above. I love purple, so this is the perfect polish for me! I can’t wait to use it again.

Next ups is another glitter topcoat called Follow the Chartreuse Brick Road (FCBR). It may be a mouthful, but this polish is gorgeous! I applied two coats over Julep Lisa to get the look you see in the photos (see Lisa on its own HERE). FCBR is packed with gold and red glitters. Both colors are used as fine glitters, and then the gold is seen in small and large hexagons and the red in square glitters. Once again, the formula was fantastic! It is easier to work with than other glitter topcoats I’ve tried in the past. I was also surprised by how much I liked FCBR. I am not the biggest fan of gold or red nail polishes, but I loved it in glitter form. Also, by wearing this polish over a neutral shade, it subdued the red a bit more.

All in all I am really impressed by these polishes from Charm Your Nails! You can purchase this brand on Etsy HERE. Full size polishes are $8.50 and minis are $3.50.

Don’t forget, you can also win a bottle of nail polish from Charm Your Nails in my current giveaway! Enter HERE to win one of 13 prizes!

Indie Spotlight: Utopia’s Polish in Doodle-Bug

Happy Sunday! Today I have another polish from one of the indie brands that is sponsoring my current giveaway. Utopia’s Polish sent me a fun polish called Doodle-Bug to review for you. It is really unique, and not like any other polish I own. I also used my matte topcoat over this polish, and I will include that at the end of the post. Let me show you Doodle-Bug in its natural form!

Doodle-Bug is a light pink polish filled with lots of different glitters. First, there are fine pink glitters that compliment the base nicely. Then, there are hexagonal glitters from small to extra large mixed throughout in the colors pink, red, purple, blue, and white. I applied three coats of Doodle-Bug to achieve full opacity in the photos above. As you can see, the glitters are super fun, and stand out well from the pink base. I did not have any problems with the formula whatsoever, but it did require extra drying time because of the three coats I applied. Doodle-Bug reminds me of strawberry funfetti! It’s really cute.

I thought that Doodle-Bug would look great with a matte top coat over it, so I got out my Butter London Matte Finish. I absolutely love the way this polish looks when it is matte! The glitters are smoothed out completely, and the pink color looks creamy. Doodle-Bug looks great both glossy and matte, but I personally prefer the matte look. I love how versatile this polish is!

You can find Utopia’s Polish on Etsy HERE. Full size polishes sell from $9.00-10.00, minis are $4.50-5.00, and she even sells glitter that you can use to make your own polish for $3!

Don’t forget, you can win a polish from Utopia’s Polish in my giveaway! Go HERE to enter!

Indie Spotlight: LynBDesigns in Oogie Boogie

Today I have a really fun nail polish to show you from the Etsy shop LynBDesigns. Halloween is just around the corner, and she sent me Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare Begins collection. This polish is really cool because it glows in the dark. First, I will show you the polish in normal light, and then in the dark so you can see the special effect.

The first thing I noticed about this polish is the fun bottle! It’s definitely unique and eye-catching. The polish is great, too! Oogie Boogie is a glitter top coat in an off-white base. It is filled with fine, orange glitters that are holographic! I layered two coats of Oogie Boogie over two coats of white polish. I love the way the glitter shines in the light and changes colors as you move your hand. It would definitely look really pretty layered over other colors, too. I also like the finish Oogie Boogie has. It’s not matte nor shiny, but silky smooth. In the photos above I am not wearing a top coat.

Here are some photos of Oogie Boogie in the dark! It was hard to capture, but as you can see, this polish really does glow! LynBDesigns suggests that you shake the bottle well before applying this polish to make sure the ingredients are fully mixed. That way you will be sure to get a good glow from your polish! I held my nails up to the light for a few seconds to “charge” the polish before I took these photos.  I love glow-in-the-dark nail polish, and this one is really cool!

I really like this polish from LynBDesigns! It is perfect for Halloween and the fall season in general. Make sure to stop by her Etsy shop HERE to purchase her polishes for $8.50.

You can also win a polish from LynBDesigns in my current giveaway! Be sure to enter HERE!

Julep Maven Intro Box Review & Giveaway!

If you are a blog follower of mine, you know how much I love Julep nail polish and being a Julep Maven member. Though the nail polish retails at $14 a bottle, the Maven program is a great way to get their polish at discounted prices. In order to let my readers try this great product at no cost, I wrote to Julep. They sent me an intro box to review for all of you, and they are giving one away for free! First, let me show you what comes in a Julep Maven intro box.

The packaging is always so cute!
My new polishes!

Each month Julep offers five different Maven boxes, and you choose the one you like the most based on your own personal style. The “It Girl” box always has three nail polishes in it, while the other styles have two polishes and another product (such as lotion, nail polish remover, lip gloss, etc.). I decided to pick the It Girl style to show you! The polishes I got were Morgan, Claire, and Blake.

Morgan is a beautiful deep purple polish with a hint of blue and red shimmer. None of my photographs could capture how stunning it is in person! I used two coats of this polish. The formula was perfect! I love the frosted look it has, and the shimmer adds a lot of dimension. I love purples, so Morgan will be used frequently I’m sure.

Claire is a gorgeous sky blue cream polish. I also used two coats, and again had not problems with the formula. I love cream polishes, and this one is no exception. This polish is great for people who aren’t sure if blue nails are right for them, because the color isn’t bright, but a nice pastel. This is the perfect color for spring!

Last but not least is Blake, a yellow cream polish. I loved the color of Blake, but I did have some formula issues, which is very unusual for Julep polish. My first coat was very uneven, but a second coat helped to even it out. If I did add a third coat it would have probably cleaned up the manicure, but with two coats I could still see brush strokes on some nails. Other than that small issue with the formula, the polish was really pretty. Yellow is actually a great color for nails!

Now that you’ve seen my It Girl intro box, it is time to win one of your own! To enter, you must click HERE. It will bring you directly to the Rafflecopter site. Julep is running the giveaway for me, but if you have any problems entering, don’t hesitate to contact me. The giveaway is live until September 7th. If you want to join Julep right away, you can get your first box for just one penny by entering the code MAVENINTRO at checkout. Go HERE to sign up!

500 Facebook Likes Giveaway WINNER!

Congratulations to the winner of my 500 Facebook Likes Giveaway, Chummy K.!

You win the Lil’ Shooters Collection from OPI!

You have 48 hours to email me at adventuresinpolishland@gmail.com with your address or a new winner will be chosen. This will also be posted on my Facebook page.

Thank you so much to all who entered the giveaway. Unfortunately I received approximately 300 false entries that I deleted before choosing a winner. I really appreciate all the support I receive from my amazing followers, but I do not think I will be doing another raffle-like giveaway for a while. It breaks my heart when so many of my entrants lie about following my blog, sharing my giveaway, etc. Stay tuned for a scavenger hunt giveaway in the future!

—————————————————————

UPDATE: It has been 48 hours, and the first winner did not claim her prize. Thus, a new winner has been chosen! Congratulations, Madison G.! You will also have 48 hours to email me at adventuresinpolishland@gmail.com with your address to claim your prize or a new winner will be chosen.

500 Facebook Likes Giveaway is now LIVE!

To celebrate reaching 500 Likes on my Facebook page, I am giving away the Lil’ Shooters set from the OPI Texas Collection!

To enter, go to my Facebook page HERE! You will find the Rafflecopter widget in the upper right hand corner of the page directly under my cover photo. This giveaway is open internationally and will end on July 26th at midnight. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

A big THANK YOU to my 131 blog followers and 745 Facebook fans!

UPDATE: Please note that I am verifying entries as I receive them. Any fake entries will be deleted & that person will be disqualified from winning. It is only fair that you play by the rules! That means if you say you are following the blog, you are actually following. Thank you for understanding!

50 Followers Giveaway WINNER!

A big THANK YOU to all of my followers (now a total of 106!) and to all who entered my first giveaway. Unfortunately, some of you did not read through the rules and I had to weed out the entries that did not qualify. That left us with a total of 45 entries. It really stinks that Rafflecopter doesn’t work on WordPress, because I think that was one of the main reasons I didn’t get too many entries. I will work on finding a solution on that for future giveaways, along with opening them up internationally. Anyway, on to the winner!

After verifying all of the entries, I used a random number generator to choose the lucky recipient. And the winner is Melanie S., a fellow blogger! Please email me at adventuresinpolishland@gmail.com with your shipping information within the next 48 hours or a new winner will be chosen. I’ll post this on Facebook, too.

Speaking of Facebook, have you liked my page yet? I often post sneak peeks of my manis, sale alerts, and more. When I reach 500 likes I will be having an even bigger giveaway. What are you waiting for? Like it HERE.

Thank you all again for your continued support. I hope you have been enjoying my Adventures in Polishland.

Try it on Tuesday: July 4th Edition

Yesterday I anxiously awaited the arrival of my July Julep Maven Box, and when it arrived I was so excited to try out my new polish. As tomorrow is the Fourth of July for all of us Americans, I knew I just had to put on America the Beautiful right away! I decided to combine this glittery goodness with a red, white, and blue that I already owned. Here are all the polishes I used:

Left to right: unnamed red mini from OPI, Empire State Blue from NYC, 104 (white) from Fabulous Nails, and America the Beautiful from Julep.

To complete the mani, I painted two coats of America the Beautiful on each finger except for my ring finger on each hand. I am loving the One for Fun look lately, and just had to do it again! The glitter was actually pretty easy to work with. Unlike other recipients of July’s Julep Box, I have many stars in my America polish. I do admit, they seem to clump together, but with a bit of careful polishing, you can get them to stand out. I love the mix of glitters, too– fine red grains, blue & silver flakes, and the silver stars! It’s very beautiful.

On my accent finger, I used the scotch tape method to create diagonal stripes of red, white, and blue. I love this trick, but always get impatient waiting for the polish to dry. Remember, when you use the tape, begin from the bottom up. In other words, I painted the red color first, then the white, and ended with the blue. It’s much easier to build on colors rather than attempt to work in between them. With a bit of patience, your nails will look great!!

Though this mani looks fabulous in person, it was extremely difficult to photograph. I tried areas with different lighting and tried shooting from different angles. Finally, my dad helped out with this camera phone macro setting and got the shot below for me. You can see the stars shining bright!

What are you wearing for Try it on Tuesday or July 4th? Let me know! You can always post photos on my Facebook page HERE. Finally, don’t forget to enter my giveaway! Only 4 days left to score some polish and glitter from LASplash. You can see that post HERE.
