Simple Saturday | Julep Cloud Manicure

Happy Saturday! Now that Christmas is over, I took the time to paint my nails after going a week without any polish. I rather enjoy short nails, and after doing so much housework the past week to get ready for holiday get-togethers, I actually enjoyed chopping them down. Since I am separated from my nail polish stash at the moment, I raided Momma Polishland’s collection (with her permission, of course). She’s grown quite a substantial pile of polishes in the past few years – that seems to happen when your daughter is a nail polish blogger, even if she’s moved out of the house! Let me show you the quick and easy nail art look I created.

Julep Dianna | Adventures in PolishlandI began with a base of Julep Dianna, a stunning navy polish. Dianna has a great formula, and I applied two thin coats to achieve opacity. This was easily done very fast – I forgot that Julep switched to wide, flat brushes! They can be tricky at first, but really easy to use once you get the hang of the feel.

Julep Cloud Manicure | Adventures in PolishlandFor an accent nail, I grabbed Julep Briana, a mint shade that leans towards blue. I thought Briana looked perfect when paired with Dianna! I simply used the cloud nail art technique (full details on how to create the clouds HERE). The creme formulas look amazing, and the blue tones are wintery yet no longer holiday themed. I applied a glossy top coat to finish the look, and I was good to go!

All in all, I am really happy with my simple manicure. It looks fancy with the cloud accent nail, but was so easy to create. You can actually grab Briana for just $4.99 on Julep’s website HERE in the Savvy Deals section today. If you spend $25 or more from now until December 28, you get a free gift worth $50 with promo code SAVVY. This is definitely a great bargain! Be sure to let me know in the comments what you think of my manicure, and if you are picking up anything during Julep’s sale. Also, don’t forget to enter my 3rd Annual New Year’s Eve Manicure Contest! Details on how to enter HERE.

Subscription Sunday | August Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! Today I have an unboxing of my August Julep Maven Box for all of you. I’ve been very picky lately with my Julep box, since I have dozens of Julep polishes and am working to shrink my nail polish collection. When I saw the beautiful polishes being offered this month, I decided to go for it. Let me show you what I got!

Julep Maven | August 2014 Here is a peek inside my box. This month’s theme is The Wanderlust Collection, which is perfect since I’ll be traveling this month! I went with my signature style of Classic with a Twist, and got two nail polishes and the Gel Eye Glider in Black. To be honest, I can do without the eyeliner, but I really loved the two nail polish shades so I still got this box.

Julep – Katie Julep – KatieThe first polish is Katie, a stunning, iridescent orchid polish. Katie is somewhere between a pink and purple, and I am just loving this polish. The formula is amazing, and the polish is opaque in two coats. I’ve worn this twice already, and can see myself reaching for Katie quite often.

Julep – Anvi Julep – AnviNext is Anvi, a deep violet shade with a magenta shimmer. Anvi is also a gorgeous polish, and is opaque in two coats. The formula is great as well. I know I have similar deep purples in my collection, but this one just stands out to me!

All in all, I’m so glad I got my Julep Maven box this month! I don’t think I’ll even open the eyeliner, but the polishes are amazing! I’m loving both of them, and have already gotten a lot of use out of them. As always, if you’re not a Julep Maven yet, you can get your first month for free using code FREEBOX at checkout. Please sign up using my referral LINK so I can get rewards points! While Julep does have its problems (find out what I mean HERE), I’m still going to stand by this company because the polishes are awesome and work so well with my body chemistry. If you’re a Maven, let me know what you think of your August box in the comments!

Kisspat Statement Necklace Review, Giveaway, & Nail Art!

Happy Saturday! I’m excited to bring you a fun blog post that incorporates fashion, nails, and a giveaway for all of you! I got the opportunity to review a statement necklace from the online boutique Kisspat, and thought I’d show you the jewelry, and in addition create a nail art look inspired by the piece!

NECKLACE REVIEW

Kisspat Statement Necklace ReviewKisspat Statement Necklace Review

Statement Necklace – Product Code KNSN-040M – $8.95 [BUY]

I love statement necklaces, and this design from Kisspat is definitely up my alley! The colors are beautiful, and I like the touch of rhinestones. This necklace is very lightweight, and good quality for the $8.95 price tag. The one main drawback, however, is that the chain turned my neck green! I wore this for about an hour, and had a green band around my neck. I was not a fan of that! I do really love this necklace, though, so I might try to wear it with a high-necked blouse in the future. There are 11 different colors for this product, so you can definitely find the shades that suit you best!

NAIL ART

Kisstpat Necklace Nail ArtKisstpat Necklace Nail ArtI thought this necklace would make a great manicure, so I grabbed some polishes and rhinestones and created a nail art look! I used Color Club’s Aquamarine Azulino from the Gala’s Gems Collection for the blue and Julep’s Alexandra for the neutral shade. I used tweezers to place some rhinestones on my accent nail, and voila! I am loving this nail art look! It’s classy, yet still fun at the same time.

GIVEAWAY

I’m giving away one necklace from Kisspat! Please read the Terms & Conditions in the Rafflecopter widget before entering!

Subscription Sunday | June Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! I didn’t expect to be showing you a Julep box this month, but alas I forgot to skip this month’s box and have some new nail polishes to share with you. I still love Julep, but I’m on quite a tight budget these days, so I’ve been skipping the box the past few months. My Julep emails somehow found their way to my spam folder, so I’ll have to set a reminder for the 20th of each month so I don’t forget to skip or buy! Let me go ahead and show you what was inside my June box!

June Julep Maven Box | Adventures in Polishland

Since I got my box automatically, I got my regular style profile of Classic with a Twist. It came with two nail polishes, and the product this month was a Smoothing Base Coat. I have plenty of base coats open at the moment, so I left this in the box for now. I was also quite happy with the Pixy Stix – my sweet tooth is always craving some sugar!

Julep – Bergen Julep – BergenThe first polish in my box this month is Bergen, a silvery-blue polish with a hint of shimmer. Bergen’s formula was a bit tacky, but it is opaque in two coats and has a great finish. At first, I thought Bergen was quite a boring polish, but once I tried it out I liked the color much more. It’s a great alternative to a nude neutral shade.

Julep – Ariana Julep – ArianaThe other polish in my box is Ariana, a deep purple polish with a chrome finish. Ariana has a good formula that is opaque in two coats. It’s not what I would normally call a summer shade, but the chrome finish is quite shiny and glittery in the sunlight. If you love dark polishes, I definitely recommend Ariana.

All in all, while I wasn’t expecting my Julep box this month, it was still fun to get it in the mail and share its contents with all of you! Do you subscribe to Julep? Let me know in the comments! If you’re not already a subscriber, you can get your first box HERE for just $4.99 in shipping charges with code FREEBOX.

Subscription Sunday | February Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! When I saw the Julep Maven February selections, I just knew I had to grab my box this month. Let me show you what was inside!

February Julep Maven Box February Julep Maven BoxThis month, Julep is releasing the Dramatic Collection. Every box came with a special bonus polish called Love, in addition to the box’s regular contents. I decided to go with my style profile, and grabbed the Classic with a Twist box with two polishes and a beauty product.

Julep – Greta Julep – GretaThe first polish I got is Greta, a berry toned shimmer polish. Greta is opaque in two coats, and has a great formula. The color is stunning, and I’m loving the holographic sparkle. It’s a great transitional color from winter to spring.

Julep – Octavia Julep – OctaviaThe other polish is Octavia, a bright indigo creme. Octavia has a great formula as well, and is opaque in two coats. I love how pigmented this polish is! It is definitely unlike other blue-toned polishes in my collection.

Julep Eye Sheen – Dusty Taupe Julep Eye Sheen – Dusty TaupeThe beauty product this month was a brand new Julep Eye Sheen in the shade Dusty Taupe. I was expecting this to be a cream eyeshadow, but it’s more of a mousse. The formula is nice, and easy to apply with your fingers. I like the shade, but it has a lot of glitter in it, so it’s more of a special occasion product for me. I was also disappointed with the product’s size – it’s much smaller than the standard cream shadow.

Julep – Love Julep – LoveFinally, the bonus polish each Maven got this month is Love, a rose gold glitter polish with hints of red glitter. I was happy to discover that Love is opaque on its own in two coats. It also has a formula that applies with ease. Love is such a great bonus product, and I’m loving it!

All in all, I’m so glad I got my February Julep Maven Box! It truly was a bargain at $19.99. If you’re not a Julep Maven member yet, I highly recommend this monthly program. I’ve been a member since July 2012! My favorite part of the program is the ability to skip any month that you don’t want to purchase. Try the program for just $3.99 shipping today by entering code FREEBOX at checkout HERE. Are you a Maven? Let me know in the comments!

Julep Lena: The Wear Test

Julep Lena: The Wear Test

Happy Monday! Today I’m doing something a bit different, and that is a true wear test of one of my polishes. I recently posted about my experience at the Julep Pop-Up Store in NYC (see that post HERE), and I received a couple comments warning me that Julep Lena is a stainer. I was quite surprised to hear that news, so I decided to put my nails to the test! Let me share my experiment with you, and how it turned out!

Base Coats Julep LenaMy experiment began with two base coats – Sally Hansen Double Duty and Sephora Collection. I used Sally Hansen Double Duty on my right hand as a control, and then painted my left hand as follows: one coat Sally Hansen, two coats Sally Hansen, one coat Sephora, and two coats Sephora (I wore one coat of Sally Hansen on my thumb). Because one of my commenters mentioned that she used two coats of base coat, I wanted to do the same to see if it made a difference. Once my base coat was completely dry (a very important step!), I applied Lena in two coats.

Julep Lena WearNail Polish Removers

After three full days of wear with no top coat, I had slight tip wear and just one substantial chip in my manicure. I was a bit nervous to take off my polish, but to continue my experiment I grabbed two removers to test out as well – CVS Strengthening Polish Remover and Julep Acetone Free Conditioning Nail Polish Remover. I used the CVS remover on my control hand, and the Julep remover on the experiment hand. Are you ready to see the results?!

IMG_4244 No stains! Ta da! No staining at all! The only places you can even see remnants of the polish are under the nail on my ring finger (where I accidentally got polish stuck during application) as well as a tiny bit on the ring finger’s cuticle. Other than that, I did not experience any staining whatsoever, and both nail polish removers worked equally as well. I am thrilled with the result, and glad I don’t have any stained nails!

All in all, my Julep Lena wear test turned out well! Of course, I’m not 100% sure why others experienced staining, but it could be due to an old formulation, body chemistry, or even the type of base coat. Whatever the case may be, you should be safe to wear Lena with either of the base coats I mentioned. My biggest tip is to just make sure it is completely dry before applying Lena. You always want to have a strong, impenetrable base for your color no matter what polish you’re using. Please be sure to let me know in the comments if you’ve tried Lena, and what your result was. Also, if there are any polishes that you want me to do a wear test on, let me know that as well!

Subscription Sunday | Julep Cynthia (The Best Things Really Are Free!)

Happy Subscription Sunday! Today I am excited to share with you a polish that I got completely free! As you know, I’m a member of the Julep Maven subscription program. Julep has a new incentive –  if you get your Maven box three months in a row, they’ll give you a free nail polish! Let me show you the polish I picked as my freebie!

IMG_3692 IMG_3696Cynthia is a beige nail polish mixed with holographic glitter. It has a great formula that is opaque in two coats, and dries to a satin finish. I knew Cynthia would be a unique polish, and it does not disappoint! I’ve worn it twice already since I got it, and even my friends at school commented on how much they liked it! In the photos above I’m not wearing a top coat, but if you want a glossy finish go ahead and layer that on.

IMG_3695All in all, I’m really impressed with Julep Cynthia! It is unlike anything else in my collection! You can purchase Cynthia on Julep’s website HERE. Maven members will pay the discounted price of $11.20 and receive free shipping. If you’re not a Maven yet, what are you waiting for?! Beautiful NYC | Julep NYC Holiday Pop Up

Happy Friday! Today I’m super excited to bring you the second official post in my Beautiful NYC series. I’ve labeled a few other posts into this category if it was an NYC event, or simply some shopping I’ve done around town, but today I’m highlighting the Julep Pop Up store that is officially opening today! I was lucky enough to be invited to a special Maven night at the store yesterday, and heard from the wonderful Jane Park – Julep’s CEO and Founder. As a huge Julep fan, it was really exciting to meet Jane (who is extremely nice, by the way!) and learn a bit more about Julep as a company. Let me show you some photographs I took inside the Pop Up shop!

Julep NYC Holiday Pop Up
The nail polish was separated by style profile. Look at how gorgeous the displays are!
Favorite Beauty Products
Helpful signs shared about the Maven program, and you could even vote for your favorite beauty products!
Modern Beauty
Of course, the beauty and skincare products were for sale as well!

Maven signatures
All of the Mavens were asked to sign this placard with our favorite nail polish! It will be brought back to Maven headquarters. Can you spot my name?!
Adventures in Polishland was here!
There I am! I chose the nail polish Drew!

The Pop Up store sells all the Julep polishes and products you love, plus some gift sets for the holidays. One great thing about the store is that you are able to build your own custom Maven box, and you can build as many as you want for the $19.99 price. Of course, I built my own custom box!

Julep Pop Up Custom Maven Box!I decided to build my own It Girl box, complete with three nail polishes, and then grabbed the Julep Acetone Free Nail Polish Remover. While this remover is definitely a bit on the expensive side, it is my all-time favorite remover, and I decided to treat myself. If you would like a complete review just talking about that remover, let me know in the comments!

Julep Drew Julep Drew

The first polish I grabbed is the same one I added to the Maven sign – Drew. I’m not sure why I didn’t already own this polish, because it is perfect for me! Drew is a bright pink creme, with just a flawless formula. I applied two coats, but it was nearly a one coat formula. I could literally wear this every day and not get sick of it! I really do love my pink nails.

Julep Bette Julep BetteNext up is Bette, a gorgeous purple polish that leans towards fuchsia. Bette has a “crelly” formula that is not quite a creme and not quite a jelly. It applied really well, and I am wearing two coats in the photos. Bette is very similar to a limited edition Wet ‘n Wild nail polish that I own, but I’m so happy to have this one because that bottle is halfway empty and not available any longer. Plus, Bette definitely has a better formula!

Julep Lena Julep Lena

Last but not least is Lena, a beautiful teal polish with subtle gold shimmer. When I first spotted Lena at the store, I thought it was a creme polish, but I actually love the shimmer added in! This polish is also a winner because it has a one coat formula! I just love when I make that discovery! Lena also reminds me of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Any other fans out there?!

All in all, I had a great time exploring the Julep NYC Holiday Pop Up and attending Maven night! If you will be in NYC during the holiday shopping season, be sure to stop by! The shop will be open starting today, December 13 through December 22. It’s located at 102 Fifth Avenue, amongst several other places to shop. You can find more details on Julep’s website HERE. Be sure to let me know if you visit the Pop Up!

Subscription Sunday | December Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! Now that I am down to just two subscription boxes, my Subscription Sunday posts will be less frequent, but I still look forward to them! This month I was really excited to get my Julep Maven box – the polishes looked so pretty! I opted for the It Girl style this month. Let me show you my December box!

IMG_3897This month’s theme is The Glitterati Collection, and I’m loving it! As a special bonus, Mavens received two yoga hair ties, and a 40% off discount code (not shown). Of course, my three polishes look absolutely stunning, even in the bottle!

IMG_3902 IMG_3906First up is Celia, what Julep describes as an “icy green metallic”. Celia has a wonderful formula that is opaque in two coats. A few streaks are visible, as in most metallic polishes. As for the color, I’m loving it! It’s very unique and quite perfect for the holidays. Celia definitely gets a thumbs up from me!

IMG_3908 IMG_3912Next up is Shoshanna, a yellow-gold holographic glitter. Shoshanna’s formula is a bit on the thick side, but easily maneuverable. It’s also opaque in two coats. I am blown away by this polish! It is stunning , and I truly own nothing else like it. I bet this would look great layered as well.

IMG_3913 IMG_3916Last but not least is Evelyn, a deep purple creme polish that leans towards a berry shade. Evelyn had a good formula, and is opaque in two coats. I like that this more subdued polish came in my box this month. After two very unique shades, it’s nice to have a classic creme as well. Evelyn is quite beautiful!

All in all, I’m loving my December Julep Maven Box! It’s one of my favorite Julep boxes of all time, and I can’t wait to use these polishes over and over. If you’re not yet a Julep Maven member, you can join HERE. Use code FREEBOX to get your first box for free (you just pay shipping). Let me know what you got in your Julep box this month in the comments!

Subscription Sunday | November Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! It’s been a couple months since I shared my Julep Maven Box with all of you, and I’m excited to show what was inside my November box. I decided to go with the Boho Glam style this time around, and I’m pretty happy with what I got. Here’s a sneak peek of everything inside my November box.

IMG_3511As you can see, I got two nail polishes, a lip gloss, and a sample of Julep’s Luxe Repair Skin Serum. I will say, I am disappointed that the serum sample is the extra this month. Julep used to include really great extras, but the past few months they just haven’t been as good. I hope that turns around!

IMG_3512 IMG_3515The first nail polish in my box this month is Alexandra, an off-white creme polish. Alexandra’s formula was a bit thick, and prone to streaks. WIth carefully application, I got a smooth finish in two coats. Alexandra is not my personal favorite polish, but if you love neutrals I think it is a good choice!

IMG_3518 IMG_3521The other polish in my box is Aisha, a deep, berry creme polish. Aisha has a perfect formula that applies well and is opaque in two coats. The color is just stunning, and right on trend for this fall. Aisha is definitely one of my new go-to colors this season! I highly recommend it!

IMG_3539 IMG_3541Last but not least, Julep included a lip gloss this month in the color Charming. I wasn’t too excited to receive this, but I was so surprised to discover how much I love it! First, the gloss smells amazing – just like vanilla cupcakes! But that’s not all! The color is a gorgeous “my lips but better” shade, and it feels so nice and creamy. I can’t get enough of it!

All in all, I really like my November Julep Maven Box! While I’m not too excited about Alexandra, I’m loving the other products, and plan to use them again and again! Not only do I recommend this Julep Maven subscription program (which is just $19.95 per month), but if you shop right now you can get everything on the Julep website for 50% off during the company’s Friends & Family sale! Use code GOCRAZY through tomorrow, November 4, 2013, and you will save 50% off your order! If you shop the sale, be sure to let me know what you get!
