My Makeup Collection & Storage!

Happy Saturday! A few months ago, I asked if you were interested in seeing a makeup collection tour, and I got some comments saying yes! I decided to film a video of my collection that shows you how I organize everything, and along the way I share some of the products with you as well. Please note that many of these products were gifted from friends or family, or provided from the brand for review. Plus, as a beauty blogger I’m always on the hunt for new products! Right now I’m really happy with the size of my collection, and want to get a lot of use out of it before I add anything else. Now, onto the tour!

WHAT I USE TO ORGANIZE

InterDesign Acrylic Drawers – $10-15 on Amazon HERE

I’m currently using four sets, and they are easily stackable. Plus, I love that I can see the products clearly and that the drawers are easy to clean. The price fluctuates on Amazon, but they are definitely affordable, and always under $15 each.

Target Room Essentials Small Cups – $2 at Target HERE

Target always has cute cups in the Home department, so I grabbed a few last year. The design is seasonal, but right now they offer the cute floral design shown. Of course, any cups will do, but I find that Target offers really affordable yet great quality stuff. I use these for my brushes and mascaras/eyeliners/etc.

PRODUCT REVIEWS

I mentioned a lot of products in my video, so I wanted to link you to some of the reviews I’ve done over the past couple years here at Adventures in Polishland! Of course, if there was a product I mentioned that you want to learn more about, just let me know in the comments.

Makeup by One Direction | Up All Night Review

Happy Tuesday! Today I am excited to share with you one of the limited edition tins from the Makeup by One Direction line! A couple weeks ago, I told you all about the three Looks Collections HERE. Make sure to check out that post for detailed information about all of the tins, and for the US release dates. I was sent the Up All Night palette, which is definitely geared for concert-goers! If you’re headed to a One Direction concert anytime soon, you’ll want to snag this tin!

Makeup by One Direction | Up All Night Review Makeup by One Direction | Up All Night ReviewHere’s what the tin itself looks like. I really love the packaging! It’s very sturdy and organized. Plus, I think it’s a great idea to have some tips on how to use the products right on the inside of the tin. Now, let me show you each of the products!

Stand Up Eye and Body Crayon Stand Up Eye and Body CrayonFirst up is the Stand Out Eye and Body Crayon in a dark denim shade. This is basically a jumbo crayon that you can use as eyeliner, or for anything else. I tested it as an eyeshadow base, and it worked really well for that. The formula is smooth and creamy, and blends out easily. If you’re using this purely as a liner, I suggest setting it with a powder product to avoid smearing.

4+1 Eyeshadow Palette

4+1 Eyeshadow Palette

4+1 Eyeshadow PaletteNext up is the 4+1 Eyeshadow Palette. I really like how the names of the eyeshadows are right on the back of the palette. It’s so helpful! I swatched each of the shadows above over a primer so that my camera would capture them well. You can go with or without primer in real life, as I find these shadows are nicely pigmented and quite buttery. From left to right, the shades are: Up All Night, Another World, Save You Tonight, Gotta Be You, and More Than This. I do love that there are two neutral shades in this palette, as those are perfect for everyday looks. The blues are beautiful, but definitely more for “going out.” This is a great little palette to stick in your purse if you’re heading straight to the One Direction show after school or work!

Little Black Dress Volumizing MascaraTo complete your eye makeup, this kit includes the Little Black Dress Volumizing Mascara in Perfect Black. To be honest, this mascara left me a bit underwhelmed. It gives much more of a natural look, which is nice, but it’s not too volumizing as the name suggests.

I Should Have Kissed You Lipstick

I Should Have Kissed You Lipstick

The Up All Night collection also includes two lip products, with the first being the I Should Have Kissed You lipstick. This is a super bright pink lipstick with a matte finish. The formula is extremely opaque in one coat, and will stay on all night. In fact, I Should Have Kissed You will stain your lips, so you may want to wear a lip liner or primer. The color is so vibrant that I felt a bit silly wearing it, but if you love bright lips this one is perfect for you!

Taken Liquilights Lip Gloss

Taken Liquilights Lip Gloss

The other lip product is the Taken Liquilights Lip Gloss. This is a bright pink lip gloss that glows to orange under a UV light. Unfortunately I don’t have a UV light so I couldn’t test the color change, but I did give the lip gloss a try. Because it is packed with glitter, it is a little uncomfortable to wear – I can feel the glitter granules on my lips as I wear it. Other than that, the formula is nice, and applies very easily. You can either wear Taken alone, or layered over I Should Have Kissed You to enhance your pink pucker!

Makeup by One Direction – Na Na Na Makeup by One Direction – Na Na NaMy favorite product in the Up All Night tin is, of course, the Na Na Na nail polish! Na Na Na is a gorgeous metallic blue shade with hints of green and gold. The formula is amazing, and is opaque in two coats. I am really impressed with this polish! In fact, I would love to see more polishes come out from this line!

Decorator Stencil SetLast but not least we have the Decorator Stencil Set. These stencils are included as a little bonus, and can be used to decorate your limited edition tin, or for whatever your heart desires! There are a bunch of different designs, but I thought I’d share the cute diamonds.

All in all, the Up All Night tin from the new Makeup by One Direction line is a fun collection for any One Direction fan. The quality of the products is pretty good overall, with the nail polish being the stand out product for me. Whether you’re heading out for the night, or simply looking for some bright makeup shades, the Up All Night tin might be perfect for you! Make sure to like the Makeup by One Direction Facebook Page HERE for updates, and let me know what product you would most like to try from the Up All Night tin in the comments!

Milani Limited Edition Bella Blue Collection | Nails, Eyes, & Lips!

Happy Saturday! Today I’m excited to bring you a post featuring the limited edition Bella Blue Collection from Milani Cosmetics. I usually keep my makeup simple and natural, but I stepped outside of my comfort zone to test out some blue mascaras and even (gasp!) a blue lipstick! Let me go ahead and show you the Bella Blue Collection!

Milani Bella Blue Collection

NAIL POLISH

Milani – Bella BlueMilani – Bella BlueLet’s begin with the nail polish in this collection! Bella Blue is a blackened-blue polish that is packed with crystal-like blue glitters. It has a great formula that is opaque in two coats, and looks super rock ‘n roll! I wouldn’t think of this as a standard summer polish, but I love the edgy look it has. I also got compliments while wearing it! Bella Blue is definitely a hit for me in the nail polish department.

MASCARA

Milani Bella Blue Mascaras

There are also three blue-toned mascaras in this collection! Each is a bit different, so let’s take a closer look.

Milani – Bella BlueBella Blue is the first mascara, and it is a metallic, ocean blue with hints of blue and purple glitters. The formula is good, but does tend to clump up due to its metallic nature. I also found that the curl on this one is not strong on its own, so you may want to curl your lashes in advance of applying Bella Blue. As you can see, the color is definitely pigmented! I also think this shade looks amazing with my skin tone!

Milani – Mediterranean Blue Next up is my favorite of the mascaras, Mediterranean Blue. This mascara is more of a teal shade, and does not contain any glitter whatsoever. The formula is great, and very pigmented. Feel free to layer Mediterranean Blue over a black mascara if you don’t want the color to be as vivid.

Milani – Azure Last but not least is Azure, a light blue packed with opalescent sparkle. I like that the formula on Azure still applies well, and that the glitter isn’t too “disco ball.” Instead, you get a nice glimmer when the sun hits your lashes, but it’s not too noticeable otherwise. The color payoff of Azure is similar to Mediterranean Blue, but is definitely more cool-toned.

LIPS

Milani – Bella BlueMilani – Bella BlueThe final product in the Bella Blue Collection is a blue lipstick of the same name. I really like the clear packaging of this lipstick, and I was amazed when I discovered that it smells just like cinnamon rolls! Seriously, it smells amazing! I was a bit nervous to try Bella Blue, but found that I actually liked the color. It is a metallic lipstick, and looks like a bluish-purple on my lips. The formula is light and creamy, but I find that it’s not opaque and I struggled to get a clean edge. I tried Bella Blue over lip primer and with a lip liner, but it actually looks best on its own. I just wish it was opaque! What do you think?!

All in all, I think the Bella Blue Collection from Milani is super fun for summer! I, of course, love the nail polish, and the mascaras are great for a pop of color in any makeup look. You can find the Bella Blue Collection at select Walgreens, Kmart, and Fred Meyer stores this summer. Make sure to look for the limited edition displays before these products sell out!

Red Lip Colors for July 4th from NYC New York Color!

Happy Thursday! Yesterday I showed you a fabulous and affordable manicure for July 4th (see that post HERE), and today it’s time for some festive red lips! If you’re looking for some great lip colors that you can grab at your local drugstore, this is the post for you!

CITY PROOF TWISTABLE INTENSE LIP COLOR

City Proof Twistable Intense Lip Color in Roosevelt Island RedRoosevelt Island Red – $2.99

City Proof Twistable Intense Lip Color in Roosevelt Island RedThe City Proof Twistable Intense Lip Color is designed to be lightweight, soft, and silky. It applies really easily thanks to the crayon-like applicator, and smells just like fruit punch! I find Roosevelt Island Red to be very glossy and moisturizing. It has a good color payoff, but is not completely opaque. If you’re going for a more natural look, I highly recommend this lip color! You can also wear it on top of a lipstick for added shine.

EXPERT LAST LIP COLOR

Expert Last Lip Color in Traffic JamTraffic Jam – $1.99

Expert Last Lip Color in Traffic JamI’ve tried one Expert Last Lip Color in the past, and didn’t have a great experience (see that review HERE), but I’m happy to report that I’m loving Traffic Jam! It is extremely moisturizing, and glides on with ease. The formula is creamy, and extremely pigmented. With one coat I got an opaque look! Traffic Jam is actually quite a wearable shade, especially with my fair skin tone. This lip color definitely stains your lips, though, so be careful during application!

All in all, I’m very impressed with these new lip colors from NYC New York Color! Not only are they incredibly affordable, but they are high quality as well. If you’re looking to rock a red lip this Fourth of July, stop by your local drugstore to grab one (or both!) of these. I’ll definitely be checking out more shades from these lines in the future!

Jet Away June | Caravan Stylist Studio in NYC

Happy Monday! Today’s Jet Away June post is for all of you who will be traveling to New York City! As you may know, I live in NYC, but with the thousands of tourists that visit the city every day I figured some of you would be stopping by this summer. I recently had the opportunity to visit the Caravan Stylist Studio at the Carlton Hotel thanks to Cottonelle. This is definitely a great hidden gem in the city that you need to hear more about before visiting!

The Caravan Stylist Studio is an appointment-only hub where actors, musicians, bloggers, and guests of the Carlton Hotel can get a complete head-to-toe look done before an event. Caravan offers nail, makeup, and hair services, in addition to fashion styling. Of course, I couldn’t wait to get my nails done at the studio! Cottonelle sent me to the Summertime Lounge Event, so I could learn about Caravan, and I even got to meet fellow blogger Faith over at Sassy Ethnic Bohemian who was celebrating her one year blogiversary!

Brand Partners at the Caravan Stylist Studio

Caravan is sponsored by a number of brand partners that provide the products for the studio. If you visit Caravan, you’ll be able to learn more about all of the brands and the different products they offer. I loved learning about the brands, especially Kryolan makeup and the new ZipLoop app. Cottonelle also sponsors the Caravan’s bathroom, which is decorated with a cute shower curtain and a signature “Let’s Talk Bums” sign! The photo above is a sneak peek of all of the goodies at Caravan. The studio is set up beautifully, and I loved the welcoming atmosphere!

One brand that I already knew and loved is Zoya Nail Polish! I was so excited to find out that Zoya is the official nail polish brand of the Caravan Stylist Studio! I got my nails done with a neutral shade, but the studio is currently showing off the beautiful brights Zoya has to offer for summer. I want to give a huge shout-out to Valerie Star, who did my nails and told me all about Caravan. She was really nice, and showed me some of the amazing nail art that she does on her clients. If you stop by Caravan, she’ll be the one to see! I also got my makeup done, and loved the fresh-faced, natural look I got!

All in all, the Caravan Stylist Studio is a great place to visit during the summer months when it’s hot outside and you need to freshen up! Whether you need a head-to-toe look for an evening out, or simply want to get a new manicure done, Caravan is the place to be! The studio is open to bloggers, editors, celebrities, and other special guests. More information can be found on Caravan’s official website HERE. If you’re visiting NYC this summer, I highly recommend stopping by Caravan if you get the chance!

I was sent to Caravan by Cottonelle through the website Crowdtap. All opinions are my own. See my Disclosure Policy for more information.

Subscription Sunday | June Birchbox

Happy Subscription Sunday! Today I have my June Birchbox to share with all of you. When I received my box in the mail this month, I was super excited to open it because it was much heavier than it usually is. Let me go ahead and show you my June products!

June Birchbox | Adventures in PolishlandThis month, Birchbox’s theme is Away We Go! It seems like I’m not the only one with traveling on the brain this month – Birchbox does, too! In fact, the company teamed up with JetBlue to give away a round trip flight. I hope I win!

June Birchbox | Adventures in PolishlandHere are the first set of products in my June Birchbox. I’ll tell you a bit about each one from left to right:

  • Coastal Scents Revealed Palette Sampler – $3.20 – This eyeshadow sampler contains four neutral shades from the new Coastal Scents palette. I really like this idea for a sampler, as it lets me test out more than one shadow from a brand, and will last me a long time.
  • Davines Love Shampoo – $7.50 – This is a great size shampoo sample, and it smells amazing! I can’t wait to try it, as it’s formulated for dry and frizzy hair like mine.
  • Gilchrist & Soames Body Lotion – $3.00 – I like the idea of this body lotion as it is eco-friendly and spa-worthy, but the fragrance is a bit strong for me. This is still a great size sample!
  • Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator – $5.67 – It seems like I get a new cleanser every month. I wish there was a bit more variety, but this is a great one for travel because it is an exfoliating cleanser and a good size!

June Birchbox } Adventures in Polishland

  • Davines Love Conditioner – $1.41 – I also got a conditioner that matches the shampoo sample I got. Normally I don’t like foil packets, but I think it’s great that I can test this along with the shampoo at least once or twice.
  • Davines Ol All in One Milk – $0.83 – I also got a sample of the hair treatment from the Davines line! I can’t wait to try out the entire hair care system!
  • Catherine Malandrino CM Perfume – $0.88 – Finally, I got a perfume sample that actually smells amazing! I’m excited to test it out!

TOTAL RETAIL VALUE: $22.49

RATING 1-5 (1 IS WORST, 5 IS BEST): 4

OVERALL OPINION: I love this month’s Birchbox! Not only did I get four amazing samples, but I got three smaller ones as well. Even though the retail value isn’t very high, it’s more than double what I paid for the box, and I’m sure to use every single one of these samples. I would definitely like more diversity in my Birchbox, but I can’t go wrong with anything here.

You can join Birchbox for just $10 per month HERE. I really love this subscription service, and highly recommend it! Do you subscribe already? Let me know what was inside your June box in the comments!

Jet Away June | What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Happy Monday! In today’s Jet Away June post I want to share with you what I pack in my travel makeup bag. Last week, I gave you a glimpse inside my liquids bag (see that post HERE), but now I’ll show you all the products I take with me that aren’t liquids.

Jet Away June | What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?

The first step in packing your travel makeup bag is acquiring a bag! I’m currently using THIS ONE from C. Wonder, but you can of course use any makeup bags you may have. I do suggest getting a bag that is a nylon material so it is waterproof, and I find that a bag with some structure works well for packing. Forever 21 sells very affordable makeup bags, so that is a great place to look if you need to get one.

Jet Away June | What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?Here is a sneak peek into my makeup bag. As you can see, it holds a ton of stuff! You can use small bags to separate your makeup, hair tools, medicines, etc., but I like to throw everything into one.

MAKEUP

Jet Away June | What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?PRODUCTS:

  • Physician’s Formula Canyon Classics Eyeshadow Quad [BUY]
  • Chella Eyebrow Pencil in Dazzling Dark Brown [BUY]
  • elf Blush in Pink Passion [BUY]
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in Just Beige
  • Revlon ColorBurst Balm Stain in Honey [BUY]
  • Maybelline FITme! Foundation in Classic Ivory [BUY]
  • Manna Kadar Concealer Trio in Warm Front [BUY]
  • Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Light [BUY]

I keep my makeup even more basic than usual when I travel! Just pack what you need. If you’re going to a special event, grab your eyeliner, some bronzer, etc., but if you’re going on a beach vacation you’ll probably need less makeup than what I’m packing here. The trick is to pack cream and powder products instead of liquids. Besides, who wants to carry a glass bottle of foundation anyway?!

MAKEUP BRUSHES

Jet Away June | What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?

PRODUCTS:

  • BeautyBlender [BUY]
  • CoverGirl Eyeshadow Brush
  • EcoTools Blush Brush [BUY]
  • Laura Geller Retractable Powder Brush [BUY]

I also bring only the makeup brushes that I absolutely need. A BeautyBlender will take care of your foundation and concealer easily! If you have retractable brushes, definitely bring those along with you. Otherwise, pack your brushes in a plastic bag to ensure they stay clean

Helpful Tip: Wash your brushes right before your trip so you don’t have to worry about bringing brush cleaner along with you!

HAIR

Jet Away June |What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?

PRODUCTS:

  • Tangle Teezer Dupe
  • Yoga Hair Ties

Most of your hair products will go in your liquids bag, but don’t forget a brush, comb, and any hair accessories that you use. I only need some hair ties.

PERSONAL CARE

Jet Away June | What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?PRODUCTS:

  • Yes to Blueberries Cleansing Facial Towelettes [BUY]
  • Tissues
  • Noya Lip Balm in Cherry [BUY]
  • Disposable Razor [not pictured]
  • Toothbrush [not pictured]
  • Bonine [not pictured]

You know I love my makeup remover wipes, so I’m always sure to bring a travel size pack with me. You can easily find them in the travel section at any drugstore today. Definitely bring a razor as well – if it’s disposable you can just toss it at the end of your vacation.

Helpful Tip: If you get motion sickness, grab Bonine at your local drugstore. It’s a savior!

That’s everything in my travel makeup bag! I hope you found some inspiration from what I bring along with me when I travel. Of course, everything is customizable to your own preferences and lifestyle. Be sure to let me know what you keep in your travel makeup bag. Use the hashtag #JetAwayJune on social media to snap a photo and share it with me as well!

Subscription Sunday | June Wantable Box

Happy Sunday! It’s been a while since I’ve written a Subscription Sunday post, but the series is back, and I’m excited to share my June Wantable Box with all of you! I first tried out Wantable back in October (see that unboxing HERE). I was so excited when Wantable asked me to review another box, because I really do love this subscription service. Let me tell you more about Wantable and show you what was inside of my June box!

June Wantable Box | Adventures in PolishlandWantable is a monthly subscription service that features beauty, intimates, and accessories boxes for $36 per month, or $40 for a one time purchase. I chose the beauty box, which comes with 4-5 full size products. I know many of us get aggravated by foil packets in sampling services, but with Wantable you never have to worry about that! Wantable always gives full size products that are customized to your own personal profile – just fill out a series of quick questions about your beauty preferences and Wantable makes a custom box just for you! Of course, you can always choose to be completely surprised if you’re feeling adventurous!

June Wantable Box | Adventures in PolishlandHere’s what I saw upon opening the box! Look at the goodies!

Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush
Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush

The first item in my box is the Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush. I am so excited for this product! I’ve been wanting to try Real Techniques brushes for a while now, and this one is so cute! I absolutely love the pink color, and that it’s retractable. It’s so perfect for travel! The retail price of this brush is $10.

Vincent Longo Pressed Face PowderNext up is the Vincent Longo Pressed Face Powder in the shade Golden Banana. I love face powders, so this is always an excellent product to receive. I’ve never heard of Vincent Longo before, but this compact retails for $28! I’m wearing this today, and I like it so far.

Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm in CoralI’ll be honest – I groaned when I saw a Cailyn product in my box. Cailyn works with every subscription service I’ve tried, or at least it seems that way because I own so many of their products! While I don’t love the formula of the Cailyn Tinted Lip Balms (I actually find them quite drying), I have to admit I do love the Coral shade. It’s very pretty! This product also retails for $19.00.

Ofra HighlighterThe last product in my box is the Ofra Cheeky Cheekbone Enhancer. I’ve been wanting to try highlighting products lately, so I updated my profile to say I “like” them. I’m so excited to try this one out! It retails for $14.50

TOTAL RETAIL VALUE: $71.50

RATING (1-5, 5 IS HIGHEST SCORE): 4

OVERALL OPINION: I was disappointed to see a Cailyn product in my box, and I would have liked to see a nail polish or another one of my “loves” from my style profile. However, I do really like everything I got in my box, and will use each and every product. I am absolutely thrilled about the Real Techniques brush, plus, the retail value is amazing! Even if you spent the full price of $40 for the box you would get way more than what you spent.

Do you subscribe to Wantable? If not, be sure to sign up HERE! I’ve discovered some amazing brands through this box. In fact, I’m 100% obsessed with the Manna Kadar mascara I discovered in October! If you’re looking to test out some high end brands, this box is for you. Let me know what product you’d be most excited about receiving in the comments!

May 2014 Favorites!

Happy Friday! May is coming to a close, and that means it’s time to share my monthly favorites with all of you! It’s been a busy month, and I’m so glad that it’s summer. Let me go ahead and share the products I’ve been loving!

NAIL POLISH

Zoya – WendyZoya Nail Polish in Wendy [REVIEW] [BUY]

I absolutely love Wendy from the new Zoya Tickled Collection! It’s a wearable pink shade, and I wore it for about a week this month. I think it would look great on absolutely everyone, so definitely pick it up!

LIP BALM

Noya Lip Balm in CherryNoya Lip Balm in Cherry [BUY]

I received this lip balm in a Birchbox a while back, and decided to bring it along with me on my recent trip to Los Angeles. I’m so glad I did! Not only is this 100% natural, but it smells amazing and does a great job at moisturizing my lips. I’m making this my go-to lip balm for sure.

SKINCARE

Neutrogena Clear Skin SunscreenNeutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen [BUY]

After attending the Duane Reade event with Dr. Jaliman earlier this month, I decided that I really need to wear sunscreen on a daily basis. I decided to get this one from Neutrogena because it’s advertised to not cause breakouts. I’ve used it a few times now, and it’s true! This sunscreen has a semi-matte finish, and is a lot less greasy than other sunscreens. I definitely recommend it.

BODY CARE

Jergens BB Body Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream [BUY]

I got two samples of this BB cream so I decided to just give it a try! I won’t say that this is going to change the appearance of your skin drastically, but I’ve noticed that it does make my legs look a bit nicer and ready for summer. Plus, it smells really good! I do really like this stuff, and would recommend it if you want to even our your skin tone.

MUSIC

Love Never Felt so Good by Michael Jackson & Justin TImberlake [BUY]

My new favorite song is definitely the MJ & JT single! It’s so fun, and it’s awesome to hear two of my favorite artists together thanks to the power of technology. It’s definitely got a vintage, MJ vibe, which I personally love. Definitely check it out!

That’s it for my favorites this month! I didn’t end up trying too many new products, but I hope to do that this summer when I don’t have as much work on my plate. As always, feel free to share your favorite products of May in the comments or on social media with the hashtag #PolishlandFaves. I hope you had a great May, and here’s to June!
