My First Month on Poshmark | Sales, Stats, & More!

This past month, I embarked on a new adventure by joining Poshmark. While I was aware of this website for a long time, I was inspired to finally sign up for my own account thanks to YouTubers Lisa Stevens and The Deal Queen. These two women got me so excited about the idea of selling on Poshmark that I had to try it for myself! I joined on February 2, 2020, and listed a bunch of my old clothing that I had recently decluttered from my wardrobe. I was amazed at how quickly the notifications came pouring in, and I became sucked into the app right away. Today I want to share with you how my first month on Poshmark went in terms of sales, stats, and what I’ve learned so far.

I first want to mention why I joined Poshmark in the first place. For the past year, I’ve been looking for a side hustle that I can keep up with despite having a full time job that keeps me away from home over 60 hours a week. I do have an Etsy shop, but I haven’t had much luck with sales, and handmade items take a long time to produce. I’ve also dabbled in flipping used books for profit, but I’ve found the profit margin to be quite low. When I began learning about how profitable selling on Poshmark can be, I figured I would give it a try. My goal with Poshmark is to earn a respectable side income by selling pre-owned fashion. Not only is it a great way to keep clothing from ending up in a landfill, but it’s a lot of fun as well!

My First Sales

The majority of the items I had for sale in my Poshmark Closet in my first month were items that I was decluttering. My parents also gave me some items they decluttered as well. I was extremely excited to make seven sales in my first month! After Poshmark fees, I made a total of $71.41. While that may not sound like a lot, that is pure profit since these were items I already had lying around the house. I’ve also learned that a sale on Poshmark is considered quick when it is made in the first week or two. Thus, to move seven items in my first month is pretty good!

Additionally, I have started going to the thrift store on the weekends to purchase items to resell. So far, I’ve found some pieces I really like, but I haven’t made any sales of thrifted items yet. I’m hopeful that I can continue to reinvest the money I make on Poshmark into sourcing great fashion items. That way, I can build my inventory and reach more buyers. I typically spend 2-3 hours thrifting on the weekend, and I take all of my product photos on the weekend as well.

My Posh Stats

One of the most surprising aspects of Poshmark has been the amount of followers one gets on the platform. I have averaged 1,000 followers per week, and ended my first month at over 4,300 followers. I wish Instagram worked like this! It’s my understanding that more followers doesn’t necessarily equate more sales. However, I find that following people is a great way to make connections on the app. There are some people I interact with regularly in my feed, and it’s nice to follow them and share their items daily. Having all of these followers is pretty exciting, and I’m interested to see if this growth continues.

Moreover, one of my goals for the near future is to reach Posh Ambassador status. Apparently, the Posh Ambassador program gives you a boost in the algorithm of some sort. I actually am very close to becoming a Posh Ambassador! I think being active on the app really helps not only with sales, but with learning the ins and outs of the Poshmark community as well. It’s important to engage with the community, and not just list your items and hope they sell.

Things I’m Learning

While I’m very happy with my progress so far, I do have a lot to learn about the Poshmark and reselling world. First and foremost, I need to learn more about fashion. I’ll be the first to admit I am not a fashionista. I do not know many trends or hot brands, so I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos to try and learn more. Right now I’m loving Empty Hanger!

Similarly, I am learning more about how to price items, when to make offers to those who Like my items, and when to accept or reject an offer. Since Poshmark does have a system based on negotiating, it can be difficult to know how to price things. I’ve been trying to give myself a bit of wiggle room, but at the same time list things at what I believe is a good price. In the same way, I’ve found that low-ball offers are to be expected on Poshmark, and you need to be prepared for them. My biggest surprise was someone who made me an offer that was 55% off my asking price! I politely submitted a counteroffer. I absolutely love negotiating (it’s my favorite part of my day job!), so I am always excited to get an offer in my Closet.

Finally, I think the key to success in the Poshmark app is being an active member. I aim to share my entire closet three times per day. I also participate in Posh Parties whenever I can. While a party has never lead to a direct sale for me, it’s a great way to meet other active users in the app. I also try to list items as frequently as possible, even if that means only one item per day. I don’t spend my entire day glued to the app, but I definitely check in when I can. I also utilize my social media like Facebook and Instagram to promote my Closet. You never know who will click through to your Closet and purchase something!

In the end, I am so excited that I finally joined Poshmark, and I look forward to seeing my growth. If you’ve been considering it for a long time as well, I highly recommend joining the app. Perhaps start just as I did by decluttering your own closet! You can use my referral code ADVINPOLISHLAND when you sign up to get a $10.00 credit towards your first purchase. Please let me know in the comments your thoughts on Poshmark. Do you sell or buy on Poshmark? Do you want me to share an update on my progress? Please let me know!

Why I Stopped Planning | The Unofficial End of #PlanWithPolishland

Almost five years ago, I discovered the online world of planners through the YouTuber Elle Fowler. Elle made videos about her Erin Condren LifePlanner, and I quickly fell in love with the idea of creating fun planner spreads that were not only functional, but that allowed me to use stickers, washi tape, and other crafting supplies to organize my life. After months of deliberation, I splurged on a LifePlanner of my very own, and I began documenting the entire planning process on this blog and my YouTube channel. With my planner in hand, I quickly dove into the planner community online. For a few years, I hauled stickers, decorated my planner, and interacted with other planner lovers. It was a lot of fun, but I slowly found that I wasn’t enjoying my planner any longer, thus making my YouTube videos obsolete. Today I want to share with you some of the reasons I stopped planning, and thank you for the support you showed me while I shared this hobby with you.

Why I Stopped Planning | The Unofficial End of #PlanWithPolishland

Please note that I do discuss money and the environment in this blog post. It is not my intention to pass judgment on others, and I only bring up these topics in reference to myself.

The quick answer to why I stopped planning is simply because I didn’t enjoy it anymore. When I first got my planner, I was in my most hectic season of life so far – studying for the bar exam! I needed a lot of structure, and since I was under a lot of stress, decorating a planner was a great way to plan out my day while also having a bit of “me time.” Yet once I took (and passed!) my exam, I began searching for jobs, spending more time at home, and not doing anything that really required extensive to-do lists. When I started working, I really didn’t need my planner. My days were fully structured and any spare time was dedicated to errands, chores, and relaxing. I just didn’t need my Erin Condren like I used to, and I felt no desire to return to it. I tried to figure out if other methods of planning would work for me. I spend a few months in a traveler’s notebook system, another few in a monthly planner, but in the end I decided to put the planner down and just go forth without one.

Moreover, my planning habit also died due to changes I made in my personal budget. In the few years I was using my Erin Condren, I spent hundreds of dollars on my planner and all of the supplies that came with it. Planning can be a very expensive hobby, and although I liked to tell myself I was keeping it affordable, I really wasn’t. Yes, I bought things on sale, used coupons, and even received a lot of stickers for free from brands, but I was still overspending. While it is absolutely possible to be a planner on a budget, it can be difficult to look around the community and see coveted “No White Space” weekly kits be priced at nearly $30.00 from the popular shops. As my love for planning fell by the wayside, and my desire to save money became a priority, I quickly realized how unsustainable this hobby was for me.

Similarly, I also began to have concerns about the environmental impact of my planning. Since I liked to decorate my planner, I went through a lot of sticker sheets that most likely could not be recycled. If I was putting all my stickers to use, I didn’t feel as guilty. But oftentimes I didn’t like all of the stickers included with a kit, and found myself with stacks of sticker scraps I didn’t want. While I did giveaways and shared these stickers with others, I still realized that planning can be a very wasteful hobby. In fact, almost every planner supply I’ve come across is in disposable plastic packaging. As I began to learn more about the environment, I couldn’t enjoy planning as much.

In the end, I’m truly grateful for the time I spent in the planner community. Not only was planning a great source of joy for me, but I was able to connect with so many people online through this hobby. I really appreciate those of you who watched my YouTube videos, followed my planner Instagram account, and shared my few #PlanWithPolishland blog posts. At this point in my life, I have no desire to return to planner decorating, but, of course, that may change, which is why I am calling this the “unofficial” end of #PlanWithPolishland. Thank you so much for following this planning journey of mine!

How to Use Ebates to Earn Cash Back in 3 Easy Steps

Happy Thursday! Today I will be talking about the website Ebates, and how to use it to earn cash back on your purchases. I’ve used Ebates for about two and a half years now, and I’ve had a great experience. I often recommend it to all of you in blog posts, but I recently had a request for an Ebates tutorial. Ebates is really easy to use, but I’ve put together a post that demonstrates signing up and using the website in three easy steps. I will begin by explaining a bit more about Ebates, and then jump right into the tutorial!

How to Use Ebates in 3 Easy Steps!

Let’s start out with a simple question – what is Ebates? Ebates is a website that allows you to earn cash back on many of your online and in-store purchases. I know Ebates sounds too good to be true. In fact, I did not sign up for years because I was scared it was a scam. Now that I’ve been a longtime user of the site, I’m happy to share this is the real deal! Essentially, Ebates uses affiliate marketing to earn a commission for every purchase made through its site, and then shares a percentage of that commission back with each user. Think of when you buy a diamond ring at the jewelry store. The jeweler makes a commission on your purchase, right? Now, imagine if that jeweler gave you a small percentage of his commission to thank you for shopping with him. That is the role Ebates plays in your shopping process. I know this may sound a bit confusing, but I have never had any issues with Ebates. I find it to be a secure website, and I absolutely love how I can save money online while using this service!

STEP 1 – SIGN UP FOR EBATES

Ebates Sign-Up Screen

Now it’s time for my easy tutorial on using Ebates! Step one is signing up for your free account on the website. When you sign up using my referral link HERE you will get a $10 bonus upon making your first qualifying purchase through the site. What I love about the Ebates sign-up process is that it is super simple. All you need to do is enter your email address and create a password. Later on you can input more information onto your account page so Ebates will know where to send your cash back, but signing up only takes a minute of your time!

STEP 2 – SEARCH THE STORE YOU WANT TO SHOP Ebates Home Screen

The only thing you need to remember when using Ebates is that you must always begin your shopping on the Ebates website. This definitely takes getting used to, but eventually you will get in the habit of always going to Ebates first. Let’s say I’m shopping at Sephora. The first thing I do is go to Ebates before I go to the Sephora website. In the image above you will see my Ebates home screen. All I need to do is type ‘Sephora’ into the search bar at the top and hit enter.

STEP 3 – CLICK ‘SHOP NOW’ AND START SHOPPING!

Ebates Store Landing PageOnce you type the store into the search bar, you will be redirected to the store landing page. Here is a picture of what the Sephora page looks like as an example. Each store page has two main sections. On the right you will see all of the current coupons and deals each store has to offer. I love that Ebates always lists out the available coupon codes for you so you don’t need to do an online search! On the left you will see the current cash back offer from the store and a button that says “Shop Now.” All you need to do is hit that “Shop Now” button, and Ebates will redirect you to the store from which you want to shop! You will know it is working when you get the ticket screen. An example of that screen is posted below for you to see.

When you see this screen, you are all set! Ebates is now tracking your purchases! I typically get a notification that the cash back has been deposited in my Ebates account once my order is complete, but it takes a bit longer for some stores. Nonetheless, you will get a payment every quarter. It’s always so much fun to get that bit of extra money!

BONUS TIP! DOUBLE CASH BACK OFFERS

Ebates Double Cash Back StoresI also wanted to share a bonus tip with you so you can learn how to earn even more cash back on your purchases. Every day Ebates will feature different stores that are double cash back, and sometimes even more! I always try to plan out my purchases to maximize the amount of cash back I receive. I recommend checking out the Double Cash Back tab every day to see which stores Ebates typically highlights. For example, Sephora is doubled to 8% cash back every once in a while. If I know I need something at Sephora, I’ll try to wait until it is double. There are even a few times a year, such as Black Friday, when a ton of stores are double cash back. That’s the perfect time to shop!

All in all, I hope this post helped you learn more about Ebates and the basic ways to use it. Ebates has expanded a lot in the years I’ve been using it, so there are many more features on the website that I didn’t touch on today. If you have any further questions, please leave them in a comment below and I will be happy to help you! With the holidays fast approaching, now is the perfect time to sign up to Ebates to start earning cash back. Please use my referral link HERE to sign up today!

Rite Aid Beauty Hauls | How I Save Money!

Happy Tuesday! I’ve recently scored some amazing beauty deals at Rite Aid, and they were too good not to share with all of you. Today I’ll be showing you two of my recent hauls, and sharing some tips and tricks on getting the most for your money. This post won’t contain any product reviews, but if you would like to hear more about any of these products, let me know in the comments!

HAUL #1

Rite Aid Beauty HaulI took advantage of three sales in this haul. Rimmel Cosmetics were buy one get one for 50% off, plus you got back $5 in UP Rewards if you spent $15. SinfulColors polishes had an amazing deal – simply buy one at $1.99 and get back $1.99 in UP Rewards. That deal could be redeemed twice. Finally, Olay Fresh Effects products were 30% off regular price.

Here is a breakdown of all the products I purchased with the regular price listed first, and the sale price listed second:

  • Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick – $6.99
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder – $5.69
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder – $5.69 – $2.84
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl Eyeliner – $3.99 – $1.99
  • SinfulColors Nail Polish – $1.99
  • SinfulColors Nail Polish – $1.99
  • Olay Fresh Effects S’Wipe Out – $6.49 – $4.54
  • Olay Fresh Effects S’Wipe Out – $6.49 – $4.54

Next, it’s time to use coupons! Here is what I used:

  • 3 $1 off Rimmel Products (they were each a bit different, so I could use them all in one transaction)
  • $3 off when you buy two Olay cleansers

Finally, it’s time to add up the totals!

  • Retail Value: $39.39
  • Sale Price: $30.57
  • What I Paid After Coupons: $27.28
  • UP Rewards Earned: $8.98

HAUL #2

Rite Aid Beauty HaulFor this haul, I was looking at two sales in particular. Maybellie Cosmetics were buy one get one half off, plus you got back $4 UP Rewards if you spent $12. NYC products were 30% off, plus you got back $2 UP Rewards if you spend $5. I also kept an eye out for special clearance stickers throughout the store!

Product Breakdown:

  • Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation – $8.99
  • Maybelline Dream Matte Powder – $8.39 – $4.19
  • NYC Cheek Glow – $2.99 – $2.09
  • NYC Color Wheel Mosaic Powder – $4.99 – $3.49
  • L’Oreal Single Eyeshadow – $4.89 – $2.44

Coupons Used:

  • 2 $1 off Maybelline Products (again, the coupons had different terms so I could use both at once)
  • $1 off any L’Oreal Eye Product

Totals:

  • Retail Value: $30.25
  • Sale Price: $21.20
  • What I Paid After Coupons and UP Rewards: $9.22
  • UP Rewards Earned: $6.00

As you can see, I only spent a total of $36.50 out of pocket for $69.64 worth of beauty products, and I still have $6 rewards for next time! The reason I take advantage of these sales is to stock up on products that I love, and try out some new things at a great price. I won’t have to buy any powder or makeup remover wipes for a long time now!

If you want to save money like I do, keep these simple steps in mind:

  • Always shop the sales
  • Add on coupons – you can use 1 manufacturers coupon and 1 store coupon on the same product if you have both
  • To earn UP Rewards, your total must meet the minimum amount before you add on coupons – for example, my Rimmel total in haul #1 was $17.51 before coupons, so even though I only spent $14.51 after coupons, I still qualified for the $5 UP Rewards

All in all, I hope you found this post helpful! I am not an extreme couponer, but I shop consciously and on a budget. It is so easy to save big at the drugstore, especially this time of year with clearance sales popping up. If you have any great savings tips, be sure to let me know what they are in the comments!

Indie Spotlight: Echoes Collection from Different Dimension

Calling all Pink Floyd fans! Today I have a review of the Echoes collection from the indie brand Different Dimension. This set of six unique polishes perfectly represents the band’s iconic image from the album The Dark Side of the Moon, and is super fun for summer. Let me show you this totally rad collection!

IMG_1784 IMG_1789

First up is Wish You Were Here, a glitter top coat that I layered over China Glaze Surreal Appeal. Wish You Were Here is full of lots of fun glitters in the colors pink, fuchsia, blue, and silver. I absolutely love the large circle glitters and the squares! I applied one coat in the photos above. As you can see, the large circles reflect the light and create a holographic effect. Wish You Were Here is very unique, and perfect for the summer sunshine.

IMG_1804 IMG_1807

Next up is Another Brick in the Wall, a glitter top coat that I layered over Urban Outfitters Freakin Pink. Another Brick in the Wall is comprised of white and black fine glitters, white, black, and pink rectangles, and hot pink hexagonal glitters. There is also a sprinkling of silver holographic glitters for that extra shine. I applied one coat in the photos above. Unfortunately the pink glitters got a bit washed out in the photographs, but in real life they stood out great on the pink background. If bright colors aren’t for you, wear Another Brick in the Wall over a neutral polish for a toned down look!

IMG_1815 IMG_1819

Money is the next polish in the Echoes collection. It is a white base filled with neon green, neon yellow, blue, black, and gold glitters in a variety of shapes and sizes. Money can be worn alone as it is opaque in three coats, but I wanted the neon glitters to really stand out, so I layered two coats over a white polish. Money has a great formula that is easy to apply in layers, and once again the circle glitters make a very cool statement in this polish. The color combination also lives up to the money theme quite well!

IMG_1828 IMG_1830

Next up is Time, a glitter top coat that I layered over Essie Play Date. Time is full of black, silver, and purple glitters in all shapes an sizes, including diamonds, stars, squares, and large circles. I applied one coat to get the look in the photos above. It should be noted that the large circle glitters do appear curled, but that is just reflective curling. They lay perfectly flat on the nail! The star shaped glitter also has a stunning holographic shine when it hits the light. Time is definitely a rock star polish!

IMG_1843 IMG_1848

Comfortably Numb is the next polish in the Echoes collection, and is a glitter top coat will hot pink and yellow glitters. I layered one coat over Zoya Arizona in the photos above. The yellow glitters are hard to see in the photos, but my manicure looked amazing in person with all of the neon colors together. To make the neon glitters really pop, layer Comfortably Numb over a white polish. I think this polish would also look great with a matte top coat!

IMG_1857 IMG_1858

Last but not least is my favorite polish from the bunch, Hey You. Hey You has a light purple base and is full of pink and purple glitters with a sprinkle of holographic shine. I layered two coats of Hey You over Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac, as it perfectly matched the base color and I wanted to ensure opacity. I just adore the final product! The colors are stunning, and I love the pastel base. Hey You can easily transition from spring to summer, and is such a feminine polish.

All in all, I am loving the Echoes collection from Different Dimension! Each polish has an amazing formula, and the glitters apply with ease. I also find that these polishes are so unique, and offer glitter shapes that many other brands don’t incorporate. I think these polishes are a must for Pink Floyd fans and polish fans alike! Shop the collection on Etsy HERE for $8.50 each. You can also follow Different Dimension on Facebook HERE.
