The Best Black Friday Sales for Bookworms | 2017 Black Friday Sale Roundup

Happy Tuesday! Today I am excited to share with you the best Black Friday sales for bookworms! I absolutely love shopping for books during the holiday season. Not only do books make amazing Christmas gifts, but I also love cuddling up with a book myself during the wintertime. I scoured the web for the best Black Friday deals on books to make your shopping easier!

This post includes affiliate and referral links. All opinions are my own. See my Disclosure Policy for more information.

1. Book of the Month Club – [SHOP]

My favorite subscription service is Book of the Month Club, and I think it makes the perfect holiday gift! Readers get to choose from five book selections each month, so you never get stuck with a book you won’t enjoy. Plus, each book is a new release in a beautiful hardcover edition.

From November 24 to November 26, 2017, use code GIFTBOTM to get $10.00 off a 6 or 12-month gift subscription. You can also shop Cyber Monday on November 27, 2017, and use code 2FORYOU to get two months for just $7.50 each plus a free tote bag!

2. Target – [SHOP]

If you are heading into Target for some Black Friday shopping, make sure to check out the book section! According to the store’s circular, books will be 50% off the publisher’s list price! That is an absolutely incredible deal, especially if you are looking to purchase some new releases. Target will also be offering free shipping on its website during the Black Friday sale.

3. Book Outlet – [SHOP]

If you are looking to purchase a bunch of books for a really low price, Book Outlet is the best! As the name suggests, this is an online outlet store for books. Books are always 50-90% off the publisher’s retail price, but during Black Friday the entire website will be an additional 30% off with no exclusions! The sale runs from November 23 at 10:00am EST to November 28 at 10:00am EST. Make sure to fill your carts fast, as books tend to sell out quickly! Book Outlet is by far my favorite online store for discount books.

4. Barnes & Noble – [SHOP]

Barnes & Noble always has a handful of great deals during Black Friday weekend. I think the most exciting part of the sale is the availability of special signed editions. Head in-store to purchase signed books by dozens of acclaimed and celebrity authors. Some of the authors include Fredrik Backman, Miyam Bialik, Chelsea Clinton, Neil Gaiman, and many more. Giving a special signed book is an amazing holiday gift, and makes a wonderful edition to any bookshelf!

5. Amazon – [SHOP]

Last but not least, Amazon will have several deals on books this Black Friday. Many of the offers will be flash sales, meaning that they are live for a limited period of time and only a specific quantity is available. I recommend keeping an eye on the Books section on the website to see which deals are upcoming so you can plan your purchases! In past years, Amazon also offered special coupon codes for books. For example, last year there was a $10.00 off $25.00 coupon. I will update this blog post if a coupon becomes available this year!

UPDATE: This year’s Amazon code is GIFTBOOK17 for $5.00 off print book purchases over $20.00.

That concludes my 2017 Black Friday Roundup for the best book sales! I hope you found this post helpful is you are shopping for a bookworm this holiday season, or if you are simply grabbing some new titles for your own bookshelf. As always, don’t forget to check out local independent bookshops to see what they have available! It’s important to support small businesses as well if you are able.

NYX Eye Shadow Base Review | ‘Skin Tone’

Happy Monday! Today I have a review of the NYX Eye Shadow Base in the shade Skin Tone to share with you. During my most recent makeup declutter, I tossed the two bases I owned because they were expired. I was going to splurge on a MAC Paint Pot, but while at Target I saw that NYX had an affordable option. I purchased the shade Skin Tone to try. Before I jump into the review, I did want to note that I am quite unhappy with the shade name as Skin Tone. Not everyone has the same skin tone, of course, and it’s quite disappointing that a brand would use a name that is so excluding. I hope that in the future NYX will use other descriptors for skin toned products. Nonetheless, let me share my thoughts on the actual product with you.

NYX Eye Shadow Base Review | 'Skin Tone'
NYX Eye Shadow Base Review | 'Skin Tone'

The NYX Eye Shadow Base comes in a pot, and I really liked that it was wrapped in clear plastic on the outside and had a safety seal on the inside so I know the product wasn’t opened or tested by another customer. This base is formulated to keep your eyeshadow in place, and maximize the color as well. I like to wear a base like this to cover the veins in my eyelids even if I’m not wearing eyeshadow. It just creates a cleaner and brighter look for me.

NYX Eye Shadow Base Review | 'Skin Tone'Here is a swatch of Skin Tone. It is a bit darker than I would have liked, but on the eyes it does a great job of evening out the discoloration while still looking very natural. The formula is good, and very creamy. I like to use a concealer brush to apply it so I’m not constantly dipping my fingers into the pot. I did notice some creasing on the lids at the end of the day, and this product does wear off throughout the day, too. My eyelids do tend to be on the oily side, so I think this product would work much better for someone who doesn’t have oily lids. I think this is a good product for the price, but I will be trying out another base next time around.

All in all, I have mixed feelings about the NYX Eye Shadow Base. I love the formula and that it is cruelty free, but I am still aggravated with the name choice and the fact that it creases with my eyelids. I will continue to use this base until I find a better option for me, and will be sure to check in with you when than happens! If you have a favorite eye base, please share with me in the comments!

Sticking to My Skincare Resolutions with Derma e Firming DMAE Eye Lift | #NOTICETHELOTUS at Target

Happy Monday! Today I am excited to share with you some of the skincare products I’ve been using this new year. As you may know, one of my resolutions this year is to develop a morning and evening skincare routine so that I can be treating my skin with the respect it deserves. I got to partner with Derma e to celebrate the launch of the brand’s products at Target, and thus I got to try out a few skincare goodies! I’ve tried Derma e in the past thanks to a subscription box, so I knew I would like the other products the brand has to offer. Let me share my thoughts on the Firming DMAE Eye Lift and the Hydrating Night Crème, and tell you more about Derma e at Target!

Sticking to My Skincare Resolutions with Derma e Firming DMAE Eye Lift | #NOTUSTHELOTUS at TargetDerma e is a skincare brand that uses nature’s post powerful natural ingredients and combines them with cruelty-free green chemistry. I absolutely love that the brand focuses on natural ingredients! I feel confident that I’m truly taking care of my skin when I use Derma e products. It’s always great to find a brand that is ethical in addition to providing top notch products. I’m also really excited that Derma e is now available at Target stores! You all know how much I love Target, especially if you watch my YouTube Channel. My skincare shopping just got a lot more convenient!

Sticking to My Skincare Resolutions with Derma e Firming DMAE Eye Lift | #NOTUSTHELOTUS at TargetNow let’s talk about the Firming DMAE Eye Lift, one of the products available at Target. This eye cream is designed to visibly lift, firm, and tighten the eye area, and also smooth away crow’s feet. I have a lot of fine lines under my eyes, which I think is mainly due to dryness as I’m only in my twenties. I like the Firming DMAE Eye Lift because it can be used both morning and evening, unlike other eye creams with retinols. Plus, it’s light and has a slight cooling sensation. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in my under eye area yet, but I do like that the cream is gentle for my sensitive skin.

Sticking to My Skincare Resolutions with Derma e Firming DMAE Eye Lift | #NOTUSTHELOTUS at TargetI also got to try the Hydrating Night Crème, which I’m absolutely loving! This crème is formulated to deeply hydrate the skin, reduce the look of fine lines, and replump the skin with moisture. I love the formula of this moisturizer because even though it is deeply hydrating, it does not feel heavy on the skin at all. It also has a very slight relaxing scent, which is not overpowering. I’m sensitive to smells and it doesn’t bother me one bit! My skin feels so refreshed whenever I use this product! It highly recommend it.

In addition to being great, natural products, Derma e also offers more affordable skincare than its competitors. You can purchase the Firming DMAE Eye Lift at Target for just $24.95 or online at Derma e’s website HERE. While that is a bit more than I usually spend on my skincare, I’m definitely willing to save up for Derma e products since they are cruelty free and made in the USA. I recommend adding Derma e to your next Target shopping trip if you’re looking for some new skincare to stick to your resolutions! You can learn more about the Firming DMAE Eye Lift on the brand’s YouTube channel HERE.

Brand Power: Sally Hansen HD

Today’s brand review is inspired by a recent purchase I made at CVS where I got two Sally Hansen HD polishes for 75% off. Usually priced at almost $8, I paid only $3.74 total!  With some quick searching online, it seems like this polish is being clearanced in multiple stores. If you like what you see in this post, now is the time to get a great deal on Sally Hansen HD while you have the chance!

Left to right, the colors I own are Laser, Byte, and Blu.

Before I purchased Laser and Byte, I already owned the HD polish in Blu. To be honest, I don’t use it very often, but I loved the sparkly, holographic feel of the other HD polishes so I couldn’t resist the purchase. The one thing I really don’t like about Sally Hansen HD is that I always have to use three coats of polish before it becomes opaque. For some reason this really bugs me, perhaps because the bottles suggest otherwise. The good thing is that once three coats are on, my nails look awesome! The HD polish is really sparkly and shiny, and reflects the light. They have a metallic look to them. The polish also lasts for a while before chipping, which is great for girls on the go! Overall, it’s a great polish that can be found at any drugstore or Target.

Moreover, the mani I painted using Sally Hansen HD was inspired by Carly over at Lacquered Lover (check out her site HERE). Carly posts really cool photos so I decided to try out her manicure style and even her photo style! I think it came out really cool, especially since this was the first attempt I made at editing photos like this. Plus, this take on the One for Fun really showcases two different nail colors while still tying them together. I’ll probably use this mani more often! What do you think?!

All It’s Cracked Up to Be

Since last spring, the crackle trend has been sweeping nail nation. It began with OPI’s Black Shatter, which I trekked all over midtown Manhattan to find with no luck. Thankfully, other brands began to come out with their own crackle polishes, including the much more affordable Sally Hansen. My mom bought me Fuchsia Shock, and let me tell you, I was somewhat shocked the first time I used it! It really does work, and it’s so easy to put on. Plus, it dresses up any manicure. People will be amazed when you show them your nails.

Last Thursday I decided to use crackle on my nails for my mom’s retirement party. I was wearing a bright spring dress with orange, yellow, and pink, and I couldn’t decide what color to paint my nails. Thus, I went with all three! First, I painted my nails with Don’t Be Cheesy from Spoiled and Mellow Yellow from Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear. I alternated the orange and yellow colors, painting two thin coats of each. I let this color dry for a bit before applying the crackle. Even though waiting is difficult, you want to make sure your nails are dry so the colors do not blend. Then, apply a coat of the crackle to your nails. You’ll want to move somewhat quickly, but either a thick or thin coat is fine depending on how much color you want to show from underneath. A thinner coat reveals more color. The exciting part is when the crackle begins to appear right before your eyes! It’s so awesome! Make sure to top with your favorite topcoat to event out the layers & add some shine.

So, what do you think, did my nails match my dress well? The lighting on the photo kind of stinks, but you get the idea. This manicure was fun to do, and each polish that I used was under   $6.50! Plus, if you go to Target’s website right now you can get a coupon for $1 off select Sally Hansen polishes. Go grab some new nail polish and let me know what you think of the crackle trend!
