Indie Spotlight | Play Love Laugh Natural Peel Off Nail Polish Review & Giveaway

Happy Saturday! It has been quite some time since I’ve reviewed an indie nail polish brand here on Adventures in Polishland. I’m so happy to be highlighting a company today that is quite unique. Play Love Laugh is natural nail polish made with a fruit and vegetable base. The polishes are designed to be odorless, and they feature a peel-off formula that dries extremely quickly. Play Love Laugh is the perfect nail polish for kids, but of course adults can use it, too! Let me go ahead and share the two shades I tested out, and stay tuned for a giveaway!

Play Laugh Love – Royal Princess Play Laugh Love – Royal PrincessFirst up is Royal Princess, a pink-purple shade with a purple shimmer. I applied two coats without a base or top coat, and I really like the result. The formula is great, and opaque in two coats. It definitely has a satin finish, and I think it looks super pretty. I was so impressed that Royal Princess truly is odorless. It’s such a fun polish!

Play Laugh Polish – Purple Fairy TwinklePlay Laugh Polish – Purple Fairy TwinkleNext up is Purple Fairy Twinkle, a purple glitter polish. I was a bit disappointed with this one, because I thought it was going to be a lilac base with purple glitter in it. However, as you can see from the photos, the base is nearly clear. I applied three coats in the photos above, and didn’t get any pigmentation. I would definitely recommend this for layering only.

THE REMOVAL PROCESS

Play Love Laugh polishes are designed to peel off the nail without using any nail polish remover. The directions say to soak your nails in warm water, and then peel off the polish from the base of the nail. This process did not work for me whatsoever. I soaked my nails for about two minutes, and couldn’t get the polish to peel. However, if I soaked my nails, then ran them under warm water and gently rubbed at the polish, it came off with ease. I do worry how these polishes would wear for a longer period of time. Play Love Laugh states on its website that a manicure will last 1-7 days, but I’m thinking if I took a shower with this nail polish on, it would just come off in the hot water while I’m washing. Thus, I don’t think Play Love Laugh is practical for adults in its natural state, but definitely great for kids. I can see it as a fun activity at birthday parties and sleepovers!

Play Laugh Love Natural Peel Off Polish Review Play Laugh Love Natural Peel Off Polish ReviewI decided to do an experiment with these Play Love Laugh polishes to make them suitable for adults as well. I applied Royal Princess with Purple Fairy Twinkle on top, and then sealed with my regular glossy top coat. This made my manicure last, and I didn’t have to worry about it washing off in the shower. Simply remove with your regular nail polish remover. This makes Play Love Laugh polish perfect if you have kids, because both you and your children can get great use out of them!

Zoya Nail Polish Delight Collection for Spring 2015

Happy Friday! Today I’m excited to bring you a full review of the new Delight Collection from Zoya Nail Polish. This collection contains three creme polishes and three shimmer polishes to help you celebrate the spring season. I am always eager to test out the new Zoyas when they arrive to my doorstep, so let’s jump right into my review!

Zoya Delight Collection | Adventures in Polishland

Zoya – Lillian Zoya – LillianFirst up is Lillian, a pale blue creme polish. Lillian has a good formula, but I did experience some mild streaking. I applied three coats to get a flawless finish, and I really like the result. I’m definitely a sucker for pastel shades, especially in the spring, so Lillian is a great one to have in my collection.

Zoya  – Eden Zoya  – EdenNext up is Eden, a beautiful pink polish that Zoya calls a “spring flower” shade. Eden’s formula is great, and I applied two coats to achieve opacity. It is a bit on the tacky side, so I recommend thicker coats that you allow to dry completely between layers. If you’ve been a follower of mine for a while, you’ll know that I love pinks! Eden is so nice!

Zoya – Tiana Zoya – TianaTiana is the last creme shade in the Delight Collection, and it’s a stunning mint green. Tiana also had a formula that tended to be streaky, so I applied three coats for an even finish. I’m really loving this creme polish. Mint shades are always on trend in the spring, so if you’re looking for one to add to your collection, pick up Tiana!

Zoya – Rayne Zoya – RayneRayne is the first shimmer in the collection, and is a unique metallic blue with turquoise shimmer. Rayne is a bit sheer, but has a great formula. I applied three coats to achieve opacity. At first I didn’t really like how Rayne looked on me, but the more I look at it the more I like it! What do you think?!

Zoya – Daisy Zoya – DaisyMy biggest surprise in the collection is Daisy, a yellow polish with a yellow shimmer. I wasn’t too excited about this one, but when I put it on I was loving it! Daisy has a perfect formula that is opaque in two coats, and the yellow shade looks great with my skin tone. I can’t wait to use it again!

Zoya – Leslie Zoya – LeslieLast but not least is Leslie, a purple polish with a turquoise shimmer. Leslie is my favorite in the line, and has a wonderful formula that is opaque in two coats. I’m drooling over this gorgeous lavender shade. I don’t often wear shimmers every day, but I think Leslie will be an exception!

All in all, the Zoya Delight Collection contains some really fun and unique shades for the spring season! I definitely think Leslie is a must, and would recommend you grab any of the colors that appeal to you. These polishes can be purchased on the Zoya website HERE for $9 each or $54 for the entire set. Please let me know in the comments if you’ll be picking up any of these polishes!

Manicure Monday | Essie Play Date

Happy Monday! Today I wanted to share with you my current manicure. I’ve been digging through my nail polish stash lately, and discovered an entire box of purples that I haven’t seen in a long time (yes….a whole box!). I looked through that box and decided to go with one of my old favorites. Let me show you Essie Play Date!

Essie – Play Date Essie – Play DatePlay Date is a stunning purple creme polish in the lilac and lavender color family. It is opaque in two coats, and has a perfect formula. I think Play Date looks amazing with my skin tone, but I bet it would look great on anyone! I did follow up with a coat of Essie’s Good to Go top coat for some added shine, and because I want this manicure to last the week. However, Play Date has a nice, glossy finish on its own. It’s all-around one of my favorite purples in my entire collection!

Essie – Play DateYou can purchase Essie Play Date on Amazon HERE for $8.50. You can also check your local drugstore and save some cash by using store coupons. For example, CVS often offers a percentage off or a dollar off coupon on anything in the store. Please let me know your favorite Essie polish in the comments!

Subscription Sunday | August Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! Today I have an unboxing of my August Julep Maven Box for all of you. I’ve been very picky lately with my Julep box, since I have dozens of Julep polishes and am working to shrink my nail polish collection. When I saw the beautiful polishes being offered this month, I decided to go for it. Let me show you what I got!

Julep Maven | August 2014 Here is a peek inside my box. This month’s theme is The Wanderlust Collection, which is perfect since I’ll be traveling this month! I went with my signature style of Classic with a Twist, and got two nail polishes and the Gel Eye Glider in Black. To be honest, I can do without the eyeliner, but I really loved the two nail polish shades so I still got this box.

Julep – Katie Julep – KatieThe first polish is Katie, a stunning, iridescent orchid polish. Katie is somewhere between a pink and purple, and I am just loving this polish. The formula is amazing, and the polish is opaque in two coats. I’ve worn this twice already, and can see myself reaching for Katie quite often.

Julep – Anvi Julep – AnviNext is Anvi, a deep violet shade with a magenta shimmer. Anvi is also a gorgeous polish, and is opaque in two coats. The formula is great as well. I know I have similar deep purples in my collection, but this one just stands out to me!

All in all, I’m so glad I got my Julep Maven box this month! I don’t think I’ll even open the eyeliner, but the polishes are amazing! I’m loving both of them, and have already gotten a lot of use out of them. As always, if you’re not a Julep Maven yet, you can get your first month for free using code FREEBOX at checkout. Please sign up using my referral LINK so I can get rewards points! While Julep does have its problems (find out what I mean HERE), I’m still going to stand by this company because the polishes are awesome and work so well with my body chemistry. If you’re a Maven, let me know what you think of your August box in the comments!

Milani Color Statement Nail Lacquer | Favorites & Final Thoughts

The Sheers | Pinks & Purples | Greens & Blues | Earth Tones | Reds | Glitters | Quick Dry Top Coat

Happy Wednesday! Well, friends, over the past couple weeks I’ve shared with you 37, brand new Milani polishes. I’ve thrown a lot of information at you, and if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the new Milani collection, I completely understand. That’s why I wanted to create this post for you. Here I will be sharing my own personal favorites in the Milani Color Statement line. These are the polishes that I most recommend, and plan on wearing often. I also wanted to give some of my final thoughts on the collection at the end of this post. Feel free to use the toolbar at the top of this page to see the entire range, but let’s get into my favorites!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the new Milani Color Statement line. Nearly every formula is spot on, and I had only a few minor issues as noted in my full reviews. I really appreciated that Milani added in some unique polishes, especially with the glitters and shimmers. I would love to see this line expand even further in the future, though. We are missing oranges, yellows, more greens, and a black polish. I would also like more glitters, too. Nonetheless, these 37 polishes are certainly fabulous and affordable. The $3.99 price tag is phenomenal, and I’m so honored that I got the chance to try these polishes out for all of you. I hope to see Milani expand this line in the near future!

Milani Color Statement Nail Lacquer | Pinks & Purples

The Sheers | Pinks & Purples | Greens & Blues | Earth Tones | Reds | Glitters | Quick Dry Top Coat

Happy Friday! Today I have the second installment in my review of the new Milani Color Statement Nail Laquer line. This post features all of the pinks and purples in the collection, which are some of my personal favorites. If you would like to see the other polishes in this line, use the toolbar at the top of this post. Once all of the reviews are live, each category will be linked! Let me jump right into the pinks and purples!

Milani – Doll Face Milani – Doll FaceFirst up is Doll Face, a pastel pink with blue undertones. Doll Face has a great formula that is opaque in two coats. I’m absolutely loving how this polish looks with my skin tone. For a pastel shade, Doll Face is quite pigmented, which I really like. It’s definitely a wonderful pink!

Milani – Bombshell Milani – Bombshell

Next up is Bombshell, a bubblegum pink that is brighter than Doll Face. Bombshell also has a great formula that is opaque in two coats. If you’re looking for a true pink polish I recommend Bombshell for sure. It’s also a shade that can be worn in any season.

Milani – Cupcake Icing Milani – Cupcake Icing

Cupcake Icing is an orchid pink with undertones of purple. This polish applied like a dream in two coats, and is such a gorgeous shade. Not only do I love the name Cupcake Icing, but I love this polish on me! I can also see this color looking beautiful on darker skin tones as well.

Milani – Hot Pink Rage Milani – Hot Pink Rage

The last pink is also my favorite, and it is Hot Pink Rage. This hot pink polish is an amazing bright color with a flawless formula. I applied two coats in the photos above, and I loved it so much I posted it to Instagram right away. If you only get one pink from this new line, make it Hot Pink Rage!

Milani – Imperial Violet Milani – Imperial Violet Now onto the purples, and we start with lilac shade Imperial Purple! Imperial Purple is a beautiful polish that is opaque in two coats. I always like this shade of polish, and this one has a great formula. While not a unique polish, it’s still great that Milani included Imperial Purple in its new line.

Milani – Bright Purple Milani – Bright Purple Next up is Ultra Violet, a bright purple polish with magenta and purple shimmer. Ultra Violet has a good formula that is opaque in two coats. I love how vivd the shimmer stands out against the base with this polish. I’ll definitely pull this one out during the colder months.

Milani – Sugar Plum Milani – Sugar PlumSugar Plum is also a shimmer polish, but it is more of a fuchsia purple than Ultra Violet. The shimmer is not as strong on the nails with Sugar Plum, but it’s still beautiful when the light hits it just right. Sugar Plum does have a really good formula that is opaque in two coats. I don’t think I have another polish like it in my collection!

Milani – Mauving Forward Milani – Mauving Forward Next is Mauving Forward, the perfect mauve creme polish with purple undertones. Growing up, I really disliked mauve when it came to nails and makeup, but I’m actually loving Mauving Forward! Its formula is perfect, it’s opaque in two coats, and it’s professional and classy. What more could you want?!

Milani – Lovely Amethyst Milani – Lovely Amethyst Last but not least is Lovely Amethyst, a metallic amethyst polish. Lovely Amethyst’s formula is a little tricky to work with, as metallic finishes often tend to bunch up. I suggest careful painting with thin coats to avoid issues. I’m personally not a fan of metallic polishes, but Lovely Amethyst is a beautiful shade. If you’re a February baby, grab this one!

All in all, I’m really impressed with the pinks and purples in the new Milani Color Statement line. There is a good range of shades from which to choose, and the formulas on nearly all of them are spot on. Make sure to check your local CVS store to grab these fabulous and affordable polishes for just $3.99 each. You can also buy them directly from Milani’s website HERE. Stay tuned as the series continues with the blues and greens!

Review & Giveaway | Chrome Girl Nail Lacquer

Happy Monday! I’ve partnered up with the awesome online retailer Planet Beauty to bring you another great review and giveaway. This time I’m showcasing a new-to-me nail polish brand called Chrome Girl. Launched in February of 2013 by two girlfriends, Chrome Girl is 4-Free and Made in the USA. Let me show you these beautiful polishes, and stay tuned for the giveaway at the end!

Chrome Girl Nail Lacquer First, I wanted to highlight the Chrome Girl bottles. I love the rectangular shape, and despite looking smaller than your average bottle, these are full size at 0.5oz. These bottles are going to be so easy to store, and I even love the silver font on the front. Packaging isn’t the most important thing about nail polish, of course, but I’m loving the unique Chrome Girl bottles.

Chrome Girl – 2gether Forevs Chrome Girl – 2gether ForevsThe first Chrome Girl I tried is 2gether Forevs, a lilac purple creme polish. 2gether Forevs has a dream formula that is opaque in two coats. I wore this polish for four days without top coat and only experienced slight tip wear. I highly recommend 2gether Forevs for sure!

Chrome Girl – Pucker Up Chrome Girl – Pucker UpNext up is Pucker Up, a bright pink creme polish. Pucker Up also has an amazing formula, and I applied two coats to achieve opacity. While not a very unique shade, I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a bright pink. I own quite a few in my collection, and I’m so glad to add this to the pile! Plus, it’s a great Valentine’s Day color!

Chrome Girl – Birthday Suit Chrome Girl – Birthday SuitLast but not least is Birthday Suit, a pastel pink creme polish. Birthday Suit has a good formula, and I suggest careful application to avoid any streaking since this shade is so light. I applied two coats to achieve opacity, and I’m liking the result! Birthday Suit reminds me of a ballerina, and I think it’s so feminine. If you’re looking for a great, work appropriate polish, I think Birthday Suit is a great choice!

Planet Beauty is kindly sponsoring a giveaway! One of you will win three Chrome Girl polishes. Please read the Terms & Conditions in the Rafflecopter widget below before entering. Good luck!

Subscription Sunday | My September Julep Maven Box

Happy Subscription Sunday! As you may know, I love Julep nail polish. Julep was the first subscription service I ever joined, and it is still one of my favorites. One of the program’s best features is being able to skip any month without having to cancel your subscription. I ended up skipping both July and August to make more room in my budget, but I went for the September box, and I was so excited to get it in the mail! Let me show you everything that was inside.

IMG_2911As always, my Julep Maven Box was packaged quite nicely. I did notice there was no informational card like there usually is, but I still got the quote that matches up with this month’s theme, the Cityscape Collection. I went with my signature style, Classic with a Twist, which included two nail polishes and the Bare Face Cleansing Oil. As a little bonus, Julep added a nail polish remover pad.

IMG_2912Julep’s nail polishes also got a new look! I think the new packaging sure is cute, but a little unnecessary in the long run. I’ll be putting these in the recycling bin!

IMG_2914 IMG_2915Florence is the first nail polish from my September box, and is a nude creme. The formula was a bit streaky, but Florence is opaque in two coats. This is really the perfect neutral color, especially for my skin tone. If you want to simply look polished and professional, Florence is the way to go!

IMG_2919 IMG_2923The other polish I got is Padma, a deep purple creme. Padma is a dream polish! It has a one coat formula and the color is just stunning. This polish is super pigmented, and almost looks black. Padma is just perfect for when you want a dark color. I was surprised how much I loved it!

All in all, I’m really happy with my September Julep Maven Box! I can’t wait to try out the Bare Face Cleansing Oil as well. For $19.95 per month, Julep is a great bargain. Plus, Maven subscribers get special discounts and other goodies, and can skip or cancel at any time. If you’re not a member yet, be sure to join HERE and get your first month for free with code FREEBOX at checkout (you just pay shipping).  Be sure to let me know what you think of Julep in the comments below!

Don’t Be Clueless: Everything You Need to Know About ncLA’s As If!

Happy Monday! Today I have a quick review of the ncLA nail polish I received in my July PopSugar MustHave Box (see that review HERE). I’ve tried a few ncLA polishes before, and I was so excited to receive another in a subscription box. Let me show you As If!

IMG_2382 IMG_2383 IMG_2385As If! is a pastel purple, or what ncLA calls a lavender creme. This polish is opaque in two coats, but due to the formula I needed three. Unfortunately As If! is a bit difficult to work with — a bit streaky and patchy. I suggest using thin coats to ensure you get a smooth finish. Despite the application, I’m quite pleased with the finished result of As If! I’m loving the color, and this polish has a high gloss finish without a top coat. There are definitely some pros and cons to this polish!

All in all, I’m not sure that ncLA’s As If! is worth the retail price of $16, but I’m not disappointed that I got it in my PopSugar MustHave Box. For now, I’ll enjoy this gorgeous color on my nails, but be sure to let me know what you think! Have you tried ncLA polishes? How did you like them? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Subscription Sunday | Top 10 Julep Polishes for Summer

21ae9d76-7e51-4fae-b1ae-80c80f2767adwallpaper

Happy Subscription Sunday! Today I thought it would be fun to share with you my favorite Julep nail polishes for summer. Julep was the first monthly subscription service that I ever signed up for, and I’ve been a member for over a year now. I currently have forty Julep nail polishes in my collection, so I went through and picked ten polishes that are perfect for the summer sun. Some of these polishes have been reviewed on my blog in the past, but I hope you enjoy and discover a new shade that you love!

IMG_2184

First up is Blake, a pastel yellow creme. Blake does not have the perfect formula — as with many yellow nail polishes it can be a bit streaky. Luckily I usually get it even in two to three coats, and the result is gorgeous! I love yellow nails in the summer, and Blake is a beautiful shade. While I love neon yellow, a pastel creme is very dainty and works well with many skin tones.

IMG_2196

Next is Charlotte, a dusty light purple creme. Charlotte is a one coat formula, which I absolutely love. It applies perfectly, and the finish is very glossy. I think Charlotte is the perfect choice for those who don’t like ultra-bright nails, and it is also a great transitional polish from summer to fall. If you love purple nails, Charlotte is a must for your collection!

IMG_2198

Harper is the next polish on my Top 10 list! It is an aquamarine glitter with hints of blue and an opalescent shine. Harper reminds me of a mermaid, and thus it is a must for summer! It is opaque in three coats, or you can layer it over a blue polish for an oceanic look. Harper is great for laying by the pool, and it surely sparkles in the sunlight. Be sure to let each coat dry completely between layers so you don’t smudge the glitter!

IMG_2203

Up next is Lynn, a peachy nude polish with a hint of peach and silver shimmer. Lynn is one of the first Julep polishes I ever got, and I still love it! It is opaque in two coats and has a great formula. Some brushstrokes are visible with Lynn since it is a shimmer, but I personally like the finished look. If you’re stuck in the office all summer, Lynn is definitely work appropriate!

IMG_2208

If you’re looking for a classic pink polish, Niecy is for you! It is the perfect bright pink, and has an amazing formula that is opaque in two coats. Niecy goes well with any outfit, and will look great no matter what the occasion. I love pink nail polish, and Niecy is one of my all-time favorites!

IMG_2218

Up next is Nina, a bright orange polish with a satin finish. Nina is a bit on the thick side, so be sure to limit the amount of polish you have on the brush when applying it. Nina is also opaque in two coats, and dries to look just like orange sherbet! Summer is the perfect time for orange nails, and Nina is a fun option from Julep. While the formula may not be perfect, the color payoff is worth it!

IMG_2221

Next on the countdown is Payton, a bright green creme. Payton has a great formula that is opaque in two coats. Make sure you use a healthy layer of base coat with this one, as it can be staining to your nails. I just love green nails, and Payton is the perfect option for summer. I wore it for about a week in June!

IMG_2225

Keeping with the green theme is Susie, a mint green creme. Susie has just a hint of mint pigmentation, and looks almost white in direct sunlight. It has an amazing formula that is opaque in two coats, and dries very quickly. Susie is wearable any time of the year, but mint is right on trend for this summer. Everyone needs at least one mint in her collection, and Susie is a great option!

IMG_2232

Following Susie is Teri, a bright coral creme polish. Teri has a good formula that is a bit on the thick side. It is opaque in two coats, and has a high-gloss finish. I find that Teri is very flattering for my skin tone, and I think it would look nice on everyone! Teri also isn’t too bright, so if you are looking to step into the bright nail polish world, this is a great option for you.

IMG_2240

Last but not least is my holy grail of the Julep world, Yumi. Yumi is a pink, silver, and holographic glitter polish. It can be worn alone in three coats, but I layered one coat over Teri in the photo above. I love Yumi so much that I will need a second bottle soon! It is perfect for nail art, and can be combined with many different shades for a beautiful look. Yumi is just stunning!

All in all, you can see how much I love Julep nail polish! I love getting a box in the mail every month, and the variety of colors is fantastic. You can join the Julep Maven program and get your first month for free using code FREEBOX at checkout HERE. What I love about the program is the ability to skip any month you don’t want to purchase, and the special discounts that Maven members get. Let me know if you join Julep, and what your favorite Julep polish for summer is!
