Zoya Nail Polish Jelly Brites Collection | Swatches and Review

Today I have swatches and a review of the Zoya Nail Polish Jelly Brites Collection. This trio of nail polishes was originally released in 2018, but I finally got around to testing them myself and watched to share my thoughts with you. The Jelly Brites Collection contains three special edition polishes in a jelly formula. Jelly nail polishes are sheer and have a shiny finish. They are great for layering and nail art, and work well in the classic jelly sandwich manicure. Zoya is also a Logical Harmony Approved cruelty free brand, and their nail polishes are vegan friendly!

I swatched all three nail polishes in this collection over a base coat and finished with a glossy top coat from Pacifica. I applied two coats of polish in the swatches. As you will see, these jelly polishes are not opaque in two coats, but that is to be expected with this sheer formula. I recommend applying thin coats of this polish and letting it dry completely between layers, as jelly polish can drag easily when tacky.

Molly

The first polish in the Jelly Brites Collection is Molly, what Zoya describes as a red/pink jelly. Molly is the brightest of the shades in the collection. This polish applies well to the nails and dries to a shiny, non-streaky finish. Molly is such a great shade for the summer months!

Paris

Next up is Paris, what Zoya describes as a fuchsia jelly polish. I’ll be very honest when I say that Molly and Paris are nearly identical nail polishes. I will show you a side-by-side photo later in this blog post, but the only difference is that Paris is slightly darker in shade and leans a bit more purple than pink. Paris does apply well, and the coverage with two coats is nice.

Alia

Last up is Alia, what Zoya describes as a plum jelly. Alia is definitely the most sheer polish in the collection, which surprised me because it looks like a deep purple shade in the bottle. I also found Alia to be a bit streaky. I recommend adding a third coat of nail polish to Alia to even out the finish and increase the pigmentation.

Ombré Skittle Manicure

Zoya Nail Polish Jelly Brites Collection Ombré Skittle Manicure

Since jelly polishes are great for layering, I decided to create an ombré skittle manicure using the three shades. I applied three coats of nail polish on each nail in the above photo. Note that the polish is still not opaque in three coats, but the coverage is good. Here is how I layered the polishes in the manicure:

  • Pinky: 3 coats of Molly
  • Ring: 2 coats of Molly topped with 1 coat of Paris
  • Middle: 3 coats of Paris
  • Pointer: 2 coats of Paris topped with 1 coat of Alia
  • Thumb: 3 coats of Alia

I really like the way the Jelly Brites Collection works together in this manicure! The shades are very complimentary, but I will reiterate that the difference between Molly and Paris is marginal. Overall, I think this is a nice trio of jelly nail polishes, but unless you are looking to add a lot of jellies to your nail polish collection, I would pick the shade you like best. My top pick is Molly!

You can purchase the Jelly Brites Collection on Zoya’s website or on Amazon for $30.00.

Nature’s Gate Aloe Vera Body Wash Review

Happy Monday! Today I have a review for the Nature’s Gate Body Wash in the Aloe Vera scent. I purchased this product from the online store Vitacost, which I love for finding a wide variety of vegan products. I had never tried any products from Nature’s Gate before, but I liked that I got a big, 18oz bottle of body wash for around $5.00. Let me share with you more about this product, and my experience using it.

The Nature’s Gate Body Wash comes in a large pump bottle. In addition to being vegan, the product is also made with wholistic beauty in mind. I decided to purchase the Aloe Vera scent, as I figured it wouldn’t be a heavy fragrance. I really like that Nature’s Gate does not add any synthetic fragrances to its products. I also hoped that the Aloe Vera variety would be on the moisturizing side, since the plant is naturally hydrating.

Overall, this is a nice body wash. I use about 2-3 pumps on a loofa and it produces a lot of lather. The scent of this product reminds me of the Flintstones vitamins I used to take as a child! While that is a bit odd, it definitely does not bother me. The scent also does not linger on the skin once you get out of the shower.

My biggest surprise with this body wash is that it is quite drying. I expected it to be more hydrating than other body washes I’ve tried since it is made with aloe vera, but my skin is quite dried out when I get out of the shower. I make sure to apply a body lotion after washing to combat the dryness. Thus, while I will use this whole bottle of body wash, I do not see myself repurchasing it. I love that it is affordable and convenient to use with the pump dispenser, but I will be trying something more hydrating in the future.

What is your favorite body wash? Let me know in the comments!

So Delicious Dairy Free Coconut Milk Yogurt Alternative Review | Strawberry

Happy Food Friday! Today I have a review of a vegan yogurt from the brand So Delicious. I will be honest with you – I have never liked eating yogurt, but I wanted to give the vegan variety a try to see if it tastes different. I had a coupon for So Delicious, and I decided to grab the Coconut Milk Yogurt Alternative in the flavor Strawberry to try. Let me share my thoughts on this product with all of you!

The So Delicious yogurt is coconut milk based. I was quite surprised to find that this container has less than one gram of protein, but 15 grams of sugar. That’s quite disappointing! I know many people enjoy eating traditional yogurt for breakfast because it is high in protein, but this one does not pack the same about of nutrients at all. I am glad to see that the yogurt does have 20% each of calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin B12.

I picked up the strawberry flavor of yogurt. As soon as I opened the package I smelled that distinctive yogurt smell. Keeping in mind that I did not eat much yogurt as a non-vegan, I find this So Delicious Yogurt Alternative to taste exactly like traditional yogurt. The strawberry flavor is nice, and the consistency is the same as non-vegan yogurt. Unfortunately, that means I personally do not like this product, but I am glad that vegans who do love yogurt will not have to miss out on a favorite food!

Overall, I’m quite impressed that the So Delicious Dairy Free Coconut Milk Yogurt Alternative tastes just like traditional yogurt. I do wish it contained much more protein and a bit less sugar, but if you are a yogurt lover who wants to go vegan, this is a great option for you! You can learn more about this product on the So Delicious website HERE. I’m glad I tried out this product even though I ended up not liking it much. It’s always fun seeing how a vegan alternative compares to the traditional option!

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble Twin

Happy Thursday! Today I’m excited to share an unboxing and review of Dollar Shave Club. I decided to sign up for this subscription service a few weeks ago after hearing great things from friends and family members. Not only was I on the hunt for vegan razors, but I was sick of paying big bucks for razors at the drugstore. I also discovered that many brands charge more for women’s razors even though they are exactly the same as men’s, just with a different packaging design (some info on that HERE). How outrageous is that?! It was time to dump my old blades and go for something new.

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble Twin

Dollar Shave Club is a monthly subscription service where you receive razors directly to your door for one low price. I’ve been interested in the service for a while, but decided to sign up once I saw that the brand is vegan with the exception of a few products disclosed on the brand’s website. In addition, you can try your first month for just $1.00, so now is a great time to try out the service! You can sign up using my referral link HERE.

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble TwinThe first item in my welcome box is a helpful brochure. One thing I really appreciate about Dollar Shave Club is how user friendly the service is. When you sign up to the subscription you choose from one of three blades: The Humble Twin, The 4X, and The Executive. Then you can decide to add on other products such as shave creams, shampoos, and more. This brochure explains the entire process and includes graphics to make it even easier to understand!

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble TwinRight beneath the brochure is my blade handle and the pack of blades. I’ll show you a closer look at each in turn, and share my thoughts on the razor so far.

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble TwinI decided to go with The Humble Twin, which is a basic razor with two stainless steel blades. I decided to start out with the cheapest and most basic razor to see how it works. I figured there was no reason to spend more money if this simple razor would work for me! The Humble Twin is $3.00 total per month ($1.00 + $2.00 shipping). Here is what the handle for The Humble Twin looks like. It is a simple blue with silver accents, and has a rubber grip.

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble Twin

The Humble Twin comes with five blade refills every month so you can get a fresh shave every week. I love how simple this twin blade is, and I’m very happy to report that it works very well. I was using a razor with three blades prior to this one, and I can safely say The Humble Twin is more effective. It glides over the skin easily and removes all the hair close to the root. I haven’t had any issues with cuts or razor burn since using this razor. The only downfall is that the blade definitely wears out after one week’s use. Thus, you must change the blade every week – don’t try to make the blade last longer.

Dollar Shave Club Unboxing & Review | The Humble TwinThe last item in my welcome box is a sample of the Shave Butter. I used this product and I have to say I’m very unhappy with it. Normally I shave in the shower using my shower gel or soap as a shaving cream alternative and I never have any problems. When I used the Shave Butter, my razor did not glide well over the skin and it felt quite abrasive. I definitely do not recommend this product.

That being said, I am extremely happy with Dollar Shave Club’s service and The Humble Twin razor. I think this is a great way to save on razors and get an excellent shave without having to hunt for bargains at the drugstore. While Dollar Shave Club is primarily marketed towards men, there is absolutely no reason women can’t use these products as well. I’m so happy I finally signed up, and I’ll be sure to share what future boxes from the club look like! Don’t forget you can get your first month for just $1.00 by using my referral link HERE.

Review & Giveaway | Chrome Girl Nail Lacquer

Happy Monday! I’ve partnered up with the awesome online retailer Planet Beauty to bring you another great review and giveaway. This time I’m showcasing a new-to-me nail polish brand called Chrome Girl. Launched in February of 2013 by two girlfriends, Chrome Girl is 4-Free and Made in the USA. Let me show you these beautiful polishes, and stay tuned for the giveaway at the end!

Chrome Girl Nail Lacquer First, I wanted to highlight the Chrome Girl bottles. I love the rectangular shape, and despite looking smaller than your average bottle, these are full size at 0.5oz. These bottles are going to be so easy to store, and I even love the silver font on the front. Packaging isn’t the most important thing about nail polish, of course, but I’m loving the unique Chrome Girl bottles.

Chrome Girl – 2gether Forevs Chrome Girl – 2gether ForevsThe first Chrome Girl I tried is 2gether Forevs, a lilac purple creme polish. 2gether Forevs has a dream formula that is opaque in two coats. I wore this polish for four days without top coat and only experienced slight tip wear. I highly recommend 2gether Forevs for sure!

Chrome Girl – Pucker Up Chrome Girl – Pucker UpNext up is Pucker Up, a bright pink creme polish. Pucker Up also has an amazing formula, and I applied two coats to achieve opacity. While not a very unique shade, I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a bright pink. I own quite a few in my collection, and I’m so glad to add this to the pile! Plus, it’s a great Valentine’s Day color!

Chrome Girl – Birthday Suit Chrome Girl – Birthday SuitLast but not least is Birthday Suit, a pastel pink creme polish. Birthday Suit has a good formula, and I suggest careful application to avoid any streaking since this shade is so light. I applied two coats to achieve opacity, and I’m liking the result! Birthday Suit reminds me of a ballerina, and I think it’s so feminine. If you’re looking for a great, work appropriate polish, I think Birthday Suit is a great choice!

What’s Under There? Part Three

Happy Thursday! It’s time for another edition of What’s Under There?! In this series, I share with you polishes that I layered under glitters, or used in nail art. Today I’ll be showcasing the polishes that served as the bases in my Kawaii Nail Lacquer post. You can see that review HERE if you missed it. Let me show you what was under those glitters!

IMG_2556IMG_2558First up is L’Oreal Breaking Curfew, a super dark, plum jelly polish. Breaking Curfew is definitely outside of my comfort zone! I got it at Rite Aid a few months ago because I wanted to try something new. Unfortunately, the formula is a bit difficult to work with, but three coats is a full coverage, opaque look. I do love the color, and I think it’s perfect for fall. I might have to try this as a jelly sandwich at some point!

IMG_2571 IMG_2576Next up is OPI Skull & Glossbones from the Pirates of the Caribbean Collection! Skull & Glossbones is a gorgeous off-white polish with a hint of green. It is the perfect neutral shade, and applies really nicely. I need two coats to achieve opacity. I really love how Skull & Glossbones is understated and classy at the same time. Even though it is from a retired collection, it is still available on Amazon!

IMG_2585IMG_2588ncLA’s Malibu Beach Babe is up next. This is a deep teal creme polish that just screams “fall” when I put it on despite its summery name. Malibu Beach Babe has a great formula that is opaque in two coats. I’ve worn it twice now, and I’m sure I’ll continue to get even more use out of it. ncLA polish retails for $16, but it is worth the splurge for this one!

IMG_2598 IMG_2602Last but not least is Julep Brandt, an off-black creme polish. Brandt is one of my favorite dark polishes of all time. It has an amazing formula that is opaque in two coats, and is edgy without being a harsh true black. Brandt is great on its own, but I’ve also used it for nail art. This is just an all-around fabulous polish!

All in all, I hope you liked finding out more about these polishes! Make sure to stay tuned for more What’s Under There? posts in the future! Also, don’t forget to enter my Back to School Giveaway HERE. Leave me a comment telling me your favorite polish in this post!
